Definitely. Throughout his life, Jesus was concerned with the poor, the powerless, and the oppressed. He was the friend of sinners, of the undesirables, and of the outcasts.
Jesus was a peasant revolutionary who lived by example, and died for grace and compassion. To model your behavior after his is to bring heaven closer to earth. To turn away from your fellow human beings is to turn away from his teachings, and from God.
Jesus preached the way nonviolence. He was quite explicit in his pacifism: “Love your enemy”, and “resist not evil”, he said. Jesus refused the temptation to destroy evil by force, preferring to destroy it by faith, and love.
One can only dream of a world where these traits are embraced. I hope to see it someday...
As an aside, I know many non-Christians who embrace kindness, generosity, love, tolerance, and humility also. These traits are the mark of a good person. They are taught by many philosophies including Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam in their pure (not perverted) forms.

Most of the stories/teachings(or whatever you want to call them) in the bible are good examples of how people should try to live. In some of the stories/teachings there is a message of love and tolerence. The 10 Commandments are rules for life that everyone in every religion can find useful. After all a lot of the laws of mankind are based off them. But it is a book that was written and translated by humans, the possiblity of error is greatly ignored world wide. The human race has proven time and time again the it makes mistakes.
There is the old saying, don't believe everything you read in books.

Now is just so so much better. I'm not sure when exactly you are talking about in the past - when it was rare to live past the age of 40, you lost your teeth by age 25, there was every chance you would be killed, tortured, have your eyes taken out, or raped, syphilus and other terrible diseases were rampant, you most likely lived in a tiny hut that let the rain in and never had enough to eat, women were married off at 13 with no say in the matter, men, women and children were sold as slaves? Is that when you think it might have been a better time?

You have a good grasp of the divinely infused virtues of faith, hope and charity. The teachings of Jesus are far more than the virtues. Yes, for those who do not have the virtues it would make the world a better place if they received them, but that is not our choice. Of the teachings of Jesus there is much disagreement, as many disagreements as there are christian churches to start. Add on to that the number of people who believe but not according to any organized church and the differences increase exponentially. If we cannot agree on the teachings of Jesus we cannot follow them.

Out of deference to you I will not lay into this question as was my first impulse. I will restrain myself and mention that historical Jesus or not, many people over the aeons have come up with these values, some before Jesus, some after, so it has little to do with Jesus and more with being a decent human being.
and yes, that would make for a better world but it is not going to happen in our lifetimes and maybe never.

The world would be a better off in deed. But Christ is real and so is Satan. The story was told before it happened and we can't change it. When God sent Jesus he knew the majority of mankind would reject him then and the rest of the age.
He is coming back soon to separate the sheep from the goats. Before that though. Satan has dominion over earth. Don't expect everyone to hear your message.
god Bless!

Yes, the world would be a better place if everyone embraced kindness, generosity, love etc.
It would be a better place if everyone embraced these traits weather or not they got the idea from Jesus, Ghandi, Buddha, or anywhere else.

Absolutely Cricket! Imagine if the world embraced the message of Christ. The good news is this. More and more people around the world are daily commiting their life to Christ. The message of Christ is both Life changing and redemptive.

Absolutely, if everybody followed Jesus, the entire population of the world would be dead two thousand years ago. This world would be left to nature. There would be no pollution, no concrete, the forests would cover most of the land. All the other animals would be undisturbed by people. What a beautiful green ball this earth would be.

To live life with Jesus as your example would be to live a good life. The trouble is that He has been surrounded with threats of hell and eternal torture if things aren't done a certain way etc. His followers down the centuries have mis represented what He stood for and have turned many good souls away from Him. He is all the good things you mention but alas His followers have buried Him with guilt and fear and threats. Who wants to live that kind of life?
