my sister has a spinal problem and has severe pain, shes on all sorts and nothing seems to help, she uses a chinese muscle rub called woodlock, she says it's fab and really soothes her back, this is coming from someone who's had long term severe back pain,if you buy it from chinese herbalists which my sis first did it's dear like 15 quid a bottle,on ebay she later discovered she could get 4 for 18 quid, just make sure you rub it into his back wearing latex gloves as this stuff is dynamite strong and the smell will stay on your hands for ages..massage it in for a good 10 mins..hope he feels better soon..

gentle massage A bath will ease the discomfort but he should not go straight to bed , he would be better to send hot spray cool spray to the sore spot if he goes to bed the inflammation will lie in the area and cause guarding or muscle spasm he should take pain relief & go for a gentle walk keep moving if he sits still he is making days of discomfort.
Pain killers wil take at least 20 minutes to work.
Take Ibruprofen now then 4 hrs later take 1 gm Paracetamol then 4 hours 2 more Ibruprofen make sure he is not allergic to the meds before he takes them and does not exeed recomended dosage. if he does not settle in 72hrs see your medic.
good luck feel better soon

What pain killers has he had? Try him on co-codamol and ibuprofen if he is ok taking them, the combination is quite good.
He should NOT lie flat on the floor as some peole tend to suggest. The best thing is to kep reasonably mobile, or its just gonna freeze up. Heat can help, warm (not hot) bath, and just keep popping the painkilers and anti-inflammatories for a few days.

I recommend applying an ice pack to the back for 15min every hour with your hubby lying on his stomach on the floor or in bed. This will help decrease any pain and inflammation. The next step would be to call your chiropractor as research shows it to be the most effective form of treatment for most back aches.

The pain killers should work then he has to find a comfortable position either sitting down or laying down and just stay that way for awhile. Only time will hea. Been there, done that.

Doctors now say not to rest in bed for a sore back but to keep going as usual. Obviously, it would be unwise to carry on work if there is a lot of heavy lifting but what I think they mean, is that if you go to bed, you will probably cease up. Keep moving, keep taking pain relief and it will probably sort itself in a few days. If it doesn't go to GP.

Rub some Vicks on his back, or some tiger balm if youve got it, and then tell him to put a jumper on and make him a hot water bottle to put it on, great works a treat for me... Good Luck hope he gets better soon..

He probably needs to find the cause of the pain, so perhaps a trip to the doctor tomorrow....in the meantime you are doing the right things.

He should wear a back brace to work if he doesn't already.
Also as he recovers, he needs to do stuff to strengthen his abs so he doesn't hurt his back again. Start small. Things will get easier.
Good luck.
