My boyfriend is a U.S. Navy and being assigned in Korea, if we will get married here in the Philippines, can I go along with him in Korea? He wants me to stay with him whereever he is, is it possible?

a lot of times stints in Korea are without spouses, but it just depends. he will have to find out. he can certainly bring you on his own--the Navy is not likely to pay for someone who is not his wife yet. when you do get married--you say you're getting married in the Philippines--are you a U.S. citizen? he will have to process a fiancee visa to get you legally a dependent with the Navy. again, best bet might be if you travel as a private citizen from the Philippines to Korea. you both should really research it further.

Most military personal are not allowed to bring dependents to a tour in Korea. Korea is considered too risky for family members and the services available on base are limited to active duty only. I have known spouses to move to Korea and live off base, on the economy but this is difficult at best. You would not be eligable services from the base, they would not pay any of the costs for moving you there and unless your fiance has high enough rank and his command allows hi, you would not have any housing allowance coming in to cover rent. You would have to follow Korean policy on visas and work permits as you would not be covered by military policies unless you marry. If you are planning to marry before he leaves, he will need to contact his command to see if you will be allowed to accompany him...I would expect the news you will not be allowed to go.

Stationed in South Korea the odds are that you will not be allowed to be there with him. Right now his assignment is unaccompanied. He'd have to request it be changed to accompanied with command sponsorship for you, and that's extremely difficult in South Korea. There are very few such assignments. In a place like Japan it would be very easy, but not in South Korea.

You can go, just not on military dime and you can't live with him in the military housing. I know people who have taken their spouses and rented a place off of the military installation. All you would need to do is get some sort of job there in order to get in. So there are ways around it, but as far as going with him through the military and living with him, No.
