Get in touch with ur local consulate n take ur passport with u, they wud be able to do it 4 u within few hours. I had similar probs here in London. By the way have u seen ppl queueing up 2 get a Visa, especially work visa, 4 India??

You have to apply to the issuing agency in the prescribed 'miscellaneous services' form alongwith the requisite no. of photographs. The form can be accessed at the official web-site of Indian Ministry of External Affairs,passport section.
You need to submit forms + The passport.
Had similar experience with my spouse's passport in East Africa.The problem was resolved within a week.

hey my mom jus recoverd frm the same problem last month...........allu hav to do is get ur papers an passport to ur passport office an fill an appilication to the head of the department if they r kind they'll do ur correction job in a week or it cud take an odd month or two

why are u trying to call indian agency
u should have renewed with the indian embassy right?
in that case state the problem what they have done and take it to the Embassy and get that chaged they might probaily put a sticker and chaneg the name and give u thast what would most probail y be the solution i guess...

u have to go to the same office which issued your passport with the proof about your correct name .like your birth certificate,school leaving certificate etc. the needful will be done, ucant do it on phone
