Florida town of Ave Maria is like many other large family neighborhoods. The town will have 11,000 homes in its community.
Ave Maria has a specific purpose. The quaint location isn’t built for golfers or retirees like so many other Florida developments. Ave Maria is a refuge of sorts for Christian values in a secular age
town is centered around an 1,100-seat Roman Catholic church and a traditional Catholic university.
No adult book stores or strip clubs adorn the town, and local businesses are urged not to sell contraceptives or birth control.
But some civil libertarians are raising objections to this modern-day city of God.
opens its gates to the public for the first time on Saturday. It is the brainchild of Dominos Pizza founder Tom Monaghan, who built the town as part of his life-long dream. The staunch Catholic envisioned a community that would draw residents who shared his Catholic values.

As a practicing Catholic, I am sure that I would feel very comfortable living there. I'm not planning on moving there, but I think what Mr. Monaghan is doing is great.
I'm not sure why some people are bothered by the existence of a "Catholic town" in America. After all, we have Mormon areas, we have Amish areas, and many cities even have "gay neighborhoods."
The very people who say they champion "diversity" are often the very ones who object to Ave Maria. Obviously, they only want the "right kind" of diversity.

I greatly respect many Roman Catholics, who fight for human rights and progressive issues, such as the Catholic Workers movement.
But as I understand it, those in Ave Maria wish to actually impose their religion on everyone else, banning business based on their own superstitious taboos. This is absolutely not acceptable. The only reason I would want to live in such a community would be to serve as plaintiff in lawsuits based on their illegal, unconstitutional imposition of their religion on everyone else.

I am Roman Catholic, and I would absolutely not live there, ever. The word "catholic" means universal. One of the very basic tenets of our Faith is that all are welcome. All are welcome to come to our Churches, to speak with the Faithful, to learn about what we believe in, and to benefit from the ministries that our parishes offer. To build or live in a town where only Catholics are made to feel welcome goes against everything we believe in.
There aren't many places in this country where Catholicism is welcomed with open arms. We are too conservative and religious for many secular towns and cities, and we are not conservative enough for places where evangelical protestantism dictates a less secular existence. That being the case, you might think that a place where we can live our values and practice our Faith in peace would be welcomed as a Godsend. It isn't, though. Ridicule, derision, and hate are the price we pay to live as Christ taught us to the best of our ability. That is the price we pay to remain open to all, to welcome the stranger, and to maintain the presence of the universal church in the world. To turn inward and live in communities where non-Catholics are unwelcome is to turn against everything we know of Christ's teachings. I honestly hope that nobody goes to live there; the precedent it sets is very dangerous and not in line with a truly Catholic worldview.

But I think you need to search more about this new town (and don't focus just on the media...........usually poor information).
Anyone can live here.
And it's not a law, but a request to the community, to not have the things you listed above.
Have you ever visited Utah?

ugh- I see problems arising already with just the birth control... BUT If they bought their town and want to deck it out all Catholic like the Amish do to their land- GREAT!!! Sounds like a good idea to me! I'd never move there- I already live in a very catholic and lutheran town... I hate it.

I say go for it, I won't live there, and I think it will probably fail in the long run, but whatever floats your boat.
