They asked him to make anything with a Williams Great American seasoning. He wants to make steak that he created by watching a bunch of different shows and he will make his own ultimate steak. I dont think many kids eat steak or the judges will think he had help. What else can he make

Let him cook the steak dad. Don't make him change his recipe just to please you. Why would the judges think he had help? Don't you think he is up to the task, give him the benefit of the dought. Give your kid some credit, he should know what he is capable of doing in his cooking ability's. And if he should fail, he will try even harder next time. Who knows, he may be the next Iron Chef. Let him spread his wings and go for what he wants to be. Don't hold him back. Even more so you should be encouraging him.

Wish your son the best of luck and support him. There may be a disclosure that you will sign saying he did cook it. I know my boys love steak, even as they were younger. Steak is a staple meat and most kids eat steak. If the contest is cooking for kids, then the judges must expect kids can cook at different degrees of difficulty. Most of all, it sounds like this is something he wants to do and he will have fun!!!
I hope he wins and good luck to him.

My kids and grandkids all ate steak from the age of about three! They love it. If I were a judge, I would not assume kid needed help cooking steak, either. I started cooking them on the stove and on the charcoal grill when I was 10.

Let him give it a try. And wish him good luck from me!

Steak is tough to cook exactly and I'd imagine a true judge can tell the difference between medium rare and medium well.
Chicken is much more forgiving. Unless he is skilled at cooking a steak to perfection I'd think his chances are better with chicken.

My kids all ate steaks sushi..anything I ate they did too!
At seven my son made a really good ceviche with very little help!
Kids have a clean pallet, let him go for what he knows, and wow the judges!

He can make the steak & explain why he chose steak to pre-empt any doubts.

Or he can make hamburgers - kids love burgers but prob. many other kids will have that idea too.

The other thing he can do is to experiment w/ both & see which one he likes best.

Let him make his steak. If he has done it himself, he will be able to explain the entire process to the judges, and they will be impressed (if it's good)

You should allow your son to cook whatever he wishes to make, i don't see what the problem with cooking steak would be if he can do it unaided.

Let him do it.
He sure can't copy someone else's recipe though.
