FamilySearch.org has quite a few Laera. A lot of them were born in Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Spain some in Italy.

The best thing to do is to trace your family.

To add to what Shirley T. says, the Laera family really gets around, so much so that I can't really pinpoint your country of origin just using Ancestry.com: The 1930 US census shows a Poncinaho Laera living in Gudalupe, Texas, while a Jane Laera was living in Scotland in 1851, and a Lamuel Laera was living in Ireland in 1846. Meanwhile a Peter Laera who was born in Hungary was living Pennsylvania in 1910. Other Laera entries in the 1930 US Census show Laeras living in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Look on the bright side. Your last name could be Smith!
