I am Pagan/Witch/Wiccan

News flash, no one is born Wiccan. Wicca was founded as an oath bound initiatory witch priesthood. Wicca is a path you choose, not one that you are given by birth.

I choose this path through a lot of soul searching and research. I became a Wiccan through dedication and hard work, first proving that I understood what it would mean to be a Wiccan and then proving I had the aptitude for it, not some one sided declaration based on my ego.

I was as serious about becoming a Wiccan as someone who wants to be a Catholic priest or a Rabbi. I like to think that was the kind of person Gerald and Doreen and Alex were looking for, I'm glad my HP thought so too.

Your friends were all born Wiccan? That's very unusual. Most of the Wiccans I know are converts.

I was agnostic until I had a near-death experience and ended up in hell for a while -- until I thought to pray for help (I'd never prayed before). As soon as I prayed for God to help me, He did, and I was released from hell and reunited with my body. That was at age 20; I'm 39 now, so it was half a lifetime ago. I'm a Christian, but don't have a denominational label I wear at this time.

I was born into a Lutheran family. Over the years I became very disenchanted with all the hypocrisy. I am pagan now, looking very hard at Wicca. Mostly I like what I see so, still delving into it.

Your friends have misinformed you.

No one is "born" WICCA.

They may be born Witches, but Wicca is an oath-bound initiatory religious tradition that has to be LEARNED.

From other Wiccans.

In person.

And only if you're 18 or older.

Your friends have probably read a book or two. *rolls eyes*

And stopped there, rather than continuing their spiritual quest.

If you're all that interested in my longish story about my path, and how I came to it, you can read the introduction to this blog:

I have spiritual beliefs that don't seem to fit in with any one religion. These are the things I believe in:

-Every living thing has a soul that lives beyond this life (animals, plants, etc.).
-Reincarnation for all beings is possible.
-Respect this Earth, each other, all living beings.
-Living as my conscience guides me.
-Spirit guides (although I'm not good at sensing them at all).
-Free will. You may have a plan or purpose that you create for yourself and that can be changed at any time by you.
-Peace.
-Happiness... however you may find it.
-Equality.
-Kindness.
-Magick. I haven't done any spellwork, but I believe in its power to change things and improve your life.
-I'm also agnostic in that I don't necessarily believe in any one god or goddess, but I would never say there are none. I think it's too big of a concept for me to grasp. I just try to appreciate life, this Earth, no matter how it came to be.

Overall, I really like a quote I read by the Dalai Lama: "This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness".

I enjoy learning about different spiritual paths. I'm not trying to fit into any one religion, but enjoy finding what fits with me...if that makes sense!

My parents are both Catholic. We went to church as a family until I was maybe in 2nd grade. I never thought much about religion, but met a few friends with varying beliefs. Eventually, I just chose to believe certain things and not others and am following my own unique path. I respect everyone's beliefs.

Ive never had a religion. My parents said there was no such thing as God (although Im not sure about that.) I think its because they had very strict religious upbringings & rejected it all when they grew up.
I just respect all people and all religions.
By the way, Ive never heard of wicca, whats that?

Christian of the Roman Catholic variety.

I was baptized Catholic as a baby ... didn't take it very seriously in my 20s and most of my 30s ... but have been rather devout the past five years or so.

In a nutshell, the theology of it just makes the most sense to me -- as do the concepts of the papacy and apostolic succession and so on.

Christian with no set denomination. I went to church with my mother when I was very young, I stopped going to church after my first year of college, and am still a Christian, but I don't go to church. I've been to Catholic churches and even dabbled in Wicca for a while, before I set myself on God.

I follow no religion. I am a spiritual person. I guess I'd have to say though that I would fall under the Pagan umbrella.
