were African-Americans denied the priesthood until 1980? This would have denied them eternal life in the best heaven (celestial kingdon) and all the blessings that entails. Why were they punished for their ancestoers actions instead of for their own sins? Did the 2nd article of faith apply to only white mormons?

Atomzero- a man has to have the priesthoos to marry in the temple- which is a requirement to the celestial kingdom- so they were denying the celestisal kingdom to people based on race.

Ahhh... that right there was the beginning of the end for me... raised mormon... saw the nonsense... I studied, and carefully chose atheism... it began, near as I can recall, in my early teens... you must have an LDS family to know the articles of faith so well... welcome to reality...
There's more, but I won't go into it here...

You have two questions here, so here ya go: 1) Jesus died and was resurrected. EVERYONE will be resurrected. That is a FREE gift. Just cause your resurrected doesn't mean you are going to heaven. So, no one is punished for the fall of Adam in that way, cause Jesus made it right. 2) It never was, nor is the doctrine of the LDS Church that black people weren't worth of the priesthood. It is unfortunate that it took so long for them to recieve the priesthood, but if you ask my opinion(gospel according to me, NOT church doctrine) the members of the church(white people) where SO imperfect that they were not ready to live the higher law of racial intergration. This is a common theme in The Bible, that the children of Israel weren't ready for a higher law, so they had to live a lower law(eye for and eye vs. forgive and forget) That being said, name a church in 1830 that wasn't segregated. There may have been some, but I am tired of Mormons getting hit by this, when NO ONE is without sin on this one. I mean EVERY church in the south was segregated.

I'm grateful that we have temples were these things can be taken care of. Every male will eventually have the chance to recieve the priesthood and everyone will be able to enter the new and everlasting covenant of marriage, whether in this life or through temple work for the deceased. No one will deny any person these blessings except themselves.

Article 2 is not based on the Bible. It is based on a bunch of other thoughts.
The Mormon church and the JW's are both founded on a racist foundation. If you read what the leaders said about blacks based on what it says in 3 Nephi, then you will get a good picture on what foundation the church sits.

The priesthood is all about serving others. It cannot be used to directly benefit ones self. Receiving the priesthood is not a prerequisite to attaining eternal life (Highest degree in Celestial kingdom). By denying the priesthood to blacks, God was not excluding them from eternal life. He was simply denying them certain responsibilities for serving others. This was not a punishment.

Prior to 1978, Mormon leaders forbid Blacks from holding the Mormon Priesthood. In 1978, due to mounting pressure from pending lawsuits concerning racism, Spencer W. Kimball suddenly received a revelation that Blacks could now enter the temple and hold the Mormon Priesthood. If the Mormon Church had not changed its views on Black people, it would have lost its Tax-Exempt 503(c) status - as pending litigation in several states in America was proceeding.
Today the Mormon Church flatly denies that it's revelation was based on loosing its Tax-Exempt 503(c) status - however a great deal of evidence exists showing that it did.

It says that because of what we believe(we're transgressed for our own sins) because other churches may think that Adams transgression was a part of their sins. Remember that the articles of faith were made by Joseph Smith. This article is for every race.
the priesthood thing was god's decision. OUR CHURCH IS BASED ON HEAVENLY FATHER'S DECISIONS, NOT OURS.

It means that wen we die we do not pay for Adam's sins; among other things, that those who have not reached the age of accountabliity do not have to worry about going to hell if they die before they are baptized.
