Will...I was a Witness for a LONG time, and finally came out of it about 24 years ago.....MOST of what is said about Witnesses is in fact true...I am going over the replies to your question, and I am amazed at how few witnesses even know their own past beliefs.

i even see some of them outright lie...Which kind of blows me away, since their own religion says that lying is a disfellowshipping offense.

Things are getting shaky in watchtowerland.

I could go into what they really teach that they don't want people to know, or why they are in fact a cult, but i will direct you to some links...look for yourself and decide for yourself...P.S. pray for these people....If they used their efforts towards the true gospel, they would do wonders for Christ.

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, so I can't answer this from personal experience, but I imagine they suffer from much the same abuse as evangelical Protestants like to heap on the Catholic Church. I've been called a devil-worshipper, idol-worshipper, Mary-worshipper, cannibal, and whore (of Babylon) to my face by so-called "informed" evangelicals. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course, but there's no telling them that. Thanks for asking a good question. It's not often in this forum that anyone cares to know what misinformation is being spread about any denomination. I'm encouraged to know that someone is curious and willing to listen.

Odd query, but define Christendom. I have been lied to by workers of the US government, doesn't mean the US government lied to me. I think one simple lie I often hear, not sure who spread it, but the lie that Kingdom Halls NEVER have ANY windows.

These things that many former Jehovah's Witnesses have brought to light about the JW's religion are NOT lies..The truth is being put out here for all to see. Most JW's have no clue about their past , and they will not research the truth for themselves..

The JW's are the ones that need to make sure that they are telling the truth about their past and about their founder of this religion...Most here that are former JW's are trying their best to get these people to see that they are following man .not God. If they did research themselves they would see this .

I would like to add that if anyone says that they don't believe in Jesus..then that would be a lie indeed..as they do believe in Jesus..but the things that go along with that belief is questionable..such as him being the Archangel Michael..and A God as their bible John 1:1 states instead of the diety of God and Christ.

Also, I don't like it when others call them a cult..I don't see them in this way..I know and believe that they do have some issues of mind control..no doubt about that..but to call them a cult ..I don't agree with..When one thinks of a cult it is something totally different that comes to mind. Calling them such is not the way to get them to respect what you may or may not think..that will only put JW's on the defensive. I personally just want to give JW's a different look at the Bible that they may not know exist because they have such a different Bible..
Its very very frustrating talking to them here..Their eyes are open but they do not see...they have ears but cannot hear..
Their minds are blinded to see the real truth..but they turn every bit of that back to others..and not them..

The bible states that their will be wolves in sheeps clothing seeking to devour you..who comes to mind when I read that scripture? The bible also talks about ones twisting the scripture to their own interpertations..who has done that more than any other Christian religion...so much so as to write their own Bible.

The JW's are really good people..I don't deny that..so are the millions of Christians in the world..The JW's don't give themselves a chance to see what real Christians are like..they think of them as worldy and evil or bad immoral..they seem to judge them by a few bad apples..Well..JW's have bad apples as well..Those are the weeds..You have weeds so does the other religions..God will sort them out before long.

Suzette R...many of those so called lies you mentioned are not lies at all..How long have you been one of JW's? I take it not more than 15 years or so? I have to wonder..

From a Jehovah's Witness perspective they would say that Christendom has branded them as pseudo-Christian and that they are a cult.

From Christendom's perspective they would say that Jehovah's Witnesses have branded every religion other than their own as "Babylon the Great", the harlot who rides upon the beast (as described in Revelation), and who will be destroyed. Ouch! Not nice!

That we don't know our own history. (bad assumption)
That we don't believe in Christ. (wrongo)
That in 75 the Society said it was all going to end. (never happened)
That we're a 'cult'. (Not even close.)
That we have our 'own' Bible. :P
All white
All black
Money hungry (laughable)
Will be forced to abandon our(non-witness) families. (bunk)
Get kicked out for studying the Bible without an aid. (more bunk)
That only 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses are going to heaven.
That only Witnesses will make it through Armageddon.

I mean really, there are so MANY lies told, it's almost hard to keep up! lol People just parrot what they hear from someone else rather than actually finding out from one of Jehovah's people.

Some people say that Jehovah's Witnesses aren't Christians but a sect or a cult.

JWs aren't a sect or a cult because they didn't brake away from another religion, they don't have a human leader or teacher, they don't have members only from a certain social category or of a certain race, they don't live apart from the world, they don't isolate themselves.

JWs are Christians because they respect what the Bible says, they follow Jesus Christ, they preach the good news, they reject firmly everything that has to do with paganism, immorality etc.

It is an assumption to believe the questioner is wanting an answer to slander themselves. The question does not even come close to that. WOW the defenses came out for sure.

I am not a JW but one that I do hear from time to time is that the JWs don't believe in the bible. They do believe in the bible, but their translation has differences in it from what most other groups use.

It seems truly bizarre for any questioner to believe that an answerer would join in slandering himself and his fellows. Interestingly, however, Jesus perhaps set a precedent in this regard for true Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses).

(Matthew 11:19) The Son of man did come eating and drinking, still people say, ‘Look! A man gluttonous and given to drinking wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’

Perhaps it is most disappointing when so-called Christians pretend that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christians. As with all things pertaining to Christian worship, however, true Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) are primarily interested in WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES (see Scriptures below).

Meanwhile, trinitarians repeatedly pretend that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian. Trinitarians use an artificial, trinity-specific definition of the term "Christian" which excludes anyone who does not believe that Jesus is God Himself, rather than the Son of God. Interestingly, pagans in the first century pretended that Christ's followers were Atheists(!) because the Christians had a somewhat different idea from the pagans about the nature of God.

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe! Both secular dictionaries and disinterested theologians acknowledge that Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian religion.

The Trinitarian arguments are intended to insult and demean Jehovah's Witnesses, rather than to give a Scripturally accurate understanding of the term "Christian".

In fact, the bible most closely associates being "Christian" with preaching about Christ and Christ's teachings. Review all three times the bible uses the term "Christian" and note that the context connects the term with:
"declaring the good news"
'teaching quite a crowd'
'open eyes, turn from dark to light'
"uttering sayings of truth"
"persuade"
"keep on glorifying"

(Acts 11:20-26) [The early disciples of Jesus] began talking to the Greek-speaking people, declaring the good news of the Lord Jesus... and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.

(Acts 26:17-28) [Jesus said to Paul] I am sending you, to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God... Paul said: “I am not going mad, Your Excellency Festus, but I am uttering sayings of truth and of soundness of mind. ...Do you, King Agrippa, believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” But Agrippa said to Paul: “In a short time you would persuade me to become a Christian.”

(1 Peter 4:14-16) If you are being reproached for the name of Christ, you are happy... But if he suffers as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name

So why do anti-Witnesses try to hijack the term "Christian" and hide its Scriptural implications? Because anti-Witnesses recognize that it is the preaching work that makes it clear that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are by far the most prominent followers of Christ:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Well, we have been accused of:

not being Christian because we reject the trinity, a teaching that did not become "Christian" until over 300 years after Christ died.

not being patriotic because we do not salute the flag or participate in warfare.

hating our children because we do not accept blood transfusions, although we do accept other medical procedures.

harrassing people at their homes when we bring the Bible's message to them in compliance with the Jesus' command to preach. (Matt. 28:19, 20)

writing our own Bible to suit our own beliefs, although that is not true.

not believing in Jesus.

not having fun because we shun holidays like Christmas and Easter.

leading a clean life by not smoking and abusing alcohol.
