You must beg for forgiveness if you have made an offense and want repentence for it. You cannot beg to any other than to the personality that you offended also.
If it does not apply to why you are repenting, then from the depths of yourself, you take shelter of God in His names, and in this fire of guilt you burn the sin.
Then, Real repentance means to never commit the crime again.
Not like the elephant (example) who takes a big bath, but as soon as he comes out of the water he covers his body with dirt again.
to sin on the strength of repentance is worse than the sin itself...

Anguli Mala was a mass murderer; whose aspiration was to add the thousandth bone to his prized collection. This was his single-minded desire. With that in mind, one day as he was walking down a jungle path, he spied a yellow robed mendicant walking slowly alone. Another finger bone! Anguli Mala thought to himself and hurried forward, murder in his twisted mind. But when he reached his intended victim and gazed into the Buddha's peaceful shining countenance, and felt the compassion emanating from him.. he was unable to complete his plan of action.
"Who are you?" Anguli Mala asked. "Why do you shine like that, and what is it about you that immediately calms and pacifies me?"
The Buddha replied: "I have calmed my own inner fires."
Anguli Mala was so awed that he knelt down and confessed:
"I was going to kill you, a saint, but now the fire raging inside has gone out. Why?"
"This," the Buddha said, " is the effect of inner peace, enlightenment, nirvana."
Then Anguli Mala confessed to all his sinful, cruel, and evil deeds and stated his heartfelt intention to repent. The Budha took pity on him and told Anguli Mala that his actions had created enormous bad karma, which could result in rebirth in the lowest realms: i.e Hell. But he also assured him that there is no eternal Hell. That nothing is eternal; everything changes. And when karma is expiated, it is exhausted, and then even the worst of sinners can move onward and upward. So although our deeds are the seeds of our future destiny, even a serial killer can repent, atone, and make reparations by living his life differently.
Anguli Mala was so moved by the Buddha's words that on the spot, he became a disciple of the Buddha and through practice and perseverance in the three teachings: Wisdom, Ethics and Meditation; he was eventually able to purify and expiate all his sinful karma, within that one lifetime. And Anguli Mala became an arhant, a liberated sage.
By turning a new leaf in one's life even a murderer can atone his sins, provided the society accepts it.

Learning and growing from an experience that deems " repentance " and correcting things or making things right with a SINCERE heart expecting nothing in return...not seeking any " brownie points " . . . that would be " repentance.

Best way of repentance is to feel sorry & not to repeat it.

Know what you are repenting. Then give it up, but what we find on the other side is quite amazing.

I think to talk to God each day and quiet your mind for reflection with all the chaos in your lives.........I feel at peace from God.........he watches over me I am his channel and through him my love for life and people and repentance will happen one day at a time we are all human and we sin and make mistakes........We are on the road to Divine Love that God shows us through his love and forgiveness............I think each day doing something kind for another is a Divine act of Love that brings us closer to God by creating Harmony instead of Chaos in this world...

REPENTANCE – Winning or loosing the war is immaterial. Realising the mistake itself is enough without having any intention to repeat. Had Duryodana done this Krishna would have given Mukti to him in the beginning itself or at any time. -

It is the process of changing your mind. It is the method of overhauling your belief systems. It is the path that leads you back to the garden, and it begins and ends with a confession.
