I was 21 when my husband and I got married and his 3 kids came to live with us. I had just had a baby myself and was still in college full time. So, I didn't get around to taking great care of some pictures we had professionally taken as a family. Since tehn, one of the kids has written their names in red ink on two of the pictures and there are some rips and tares. Nothing too bad. If I were to scrapbook the pictures I could totally cut out off the damage and have great pictures but of course I want to frame them so that isn't an option. The pictures were professionally done and I know there are copyright concerns but pleeeeeaaase help me!!! Thanks!

Many one hour labs have a send out restoration service. It doesn't sound like the damage is too bad, so it shouldn't be that difficult to fix. These services will cost around $50. Some professional photography studios will do restoration work. It would be a better quality restoration but at a much higher price. With the minimal damage to your picture, you could probably get by with the cheaper service and still have a nice looking print.

Also, if you have a friend or relative who is pretty handy with Photoshop, you could ask them to help. Still offer to pay for their services because it can be quite a tedious process and they will no doubt spend lots of time on it for you.

Good luck!

PS: If the picture was made before 1978, the copyright shouldn't be an issue for the restoration. . .

The best place i have found for my parents wedding pictures is Sears portrait studios. They do restoration, and they don't quiver over the copyright because legally restoration is different from copying pictures. You also could use a program on the computer my mom and dad have a program called Microsoft Pictur It! Express 200o and I was able to fad out warn edges and also use matching tools to edge out torn edges and to make it look the correct color again. I just had to touch something that was yellow and tell it that it was yellow, and it matched all the colors.. It was easy cool and i was able to print them from my computer. Sears also has lower prices than a regular professional portrait studio...
