use nix. if your hair is too badly infested, shave it bald. It is a sacrifice to do it, but it is a surefire way to completely rid the scalp of the infestation, provided you remove any leftover eggs once the head is shaved.

Rid is what I have found to get rid of those pesky things. We haven't had them in forever, but when I was a kid in school, it wasn't anything surprising to have them at least 2 times a year. Also, if there is a severe infestation, see your doctor. Doctors can prescribe a shampoo that is way more potent than what you can get over the counter. And don't forget to use the comb that comes in the package to get rid of the nits, or eggs that the adult lice leave on your hair. Usually these are found at the nape of the neck and around the ears. In other words the warmer areas of your head. Also remember to wash everything in your house and dry it on the hottest setting. Bag any stuffed animals or bedding that cannot be washed. These items should stay bagged for at least 2 weeks, to ensure that all the nits have hatched and that the adults have suffocated. Once you un-bag, run everything through the dryer, just to be sure. Hope this helps.
Take Care.

If you buy a name brand kit with the same active ingredients (pyrethrin or permethrin) as the store brand you will get the exact same results but pay more. Last year I nearly went crazy trying to get rid of Lice in my daughters hair. We then did a Yahoo search for alternatives and found the following information. It worked great. No problems since then either.
Over-the-counter lice shampoos are pesticides and may cause harm to the child with lice as well as to the individual applying the product. In addition to being toxic, lice shampoos have not been 100% effective in killing lice. Alternative treatments such as Vaseline, olive oil, and mayonnaise are effective, cost less, and are not harmful to the child. Our experience has shown that mayonnaise is the treatment of choice. It smothers live lice when the following steps are taken:
Step 1
Saturate hair completely with Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise, Best Mayonnaise, or Kraft Real Mayonnaise. Be sure to work the mayonnaise into the hair and roots. Hair MUST be thoroughly saturated with mayonnaise to prevent lice from surviving.
Step 2
Wrap hair as tightly as possible with a plastic wrap such as Saran or Handi-Wrap, or cover with a snug fitting shower cap. Next wrap the head with a towel.
Step 3
Allow the mayo wrap to remain on head for at least two hours.
Step 4
Shampoo the treated hair thoroughly and rinse with water. Next rinse the hair with Heinz White Vinegar followed by water rinses.
Step 5
REMOVE ALL NITS!!
This step is essential to break the life cycle of the louse.
Work in good light or next to a window for natural light. Divide the hair into sections and secure with clips. Carefully look for nits through one section at a time. Remove the nits as you see them. You may place an individual strand of hair between the index finger and thumb nail. The nit can then be pulled off. Discard into a plastic lined waste basket. Another method is to use a metal lice-nit comb. Follow the directions that come with the comb.
Work at nit removal for 30-45 minutes at a time and then take a break! It is essential that all nits are removed. During the early stages of development, the nits are too small to see. Therefore, you MUST check your child’s hair daily for at least two weeks.
If you see signs of an increase in nits, repeat the mayonnaise treatment. Lice survive 24-48 hours off a host and nits can survive for up to 10 days.

You need to get, Rid. Its a bit more expensive but it works. Also, put all bedding, pillows, stuffed animals etc in a trash bag closed up for two weeks. Soak all hairbrushes and combs, etc in boiling hot water until you have rid the head lice problem.
Good luck!

I was told by a nurse to kill lice and nits, blow dry your hair on "hot" setting.
No chems. Just use heat.
Be sure and wash all bedding, pillows, toys, anything washable to prevent reinfestation.
good luck.
