What kind of incense is burned in the Kung Fu temples/shaolin temples?

I was just wondering because they burn it in my martial arts school, but I never asked what kind. It does smell faintly sweet and has a red stem. It also looks like it is actively burned in Buddhist temples. If anyone knows what kind of incense it is, please post! Thanks.

We also burn incense in our home everyday. Why not ask your school where they get their incense if you like it? Most people are happy to recommend something they buy.

I don't think there is a particular scent burned at all of any type place. There is some symbolism that is pretty Universal though.

Sage, particularly white sage is often thought to cleanse a room. You would use this when opening a new house or business for example.

Frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood are some other examples of natural incense, meaning there are no added chemicals to produce the fragrance.

You can choose any incense that you personally like, but most people try to stick with all natural products. Right now we are burning some rose scented sticks from India, and it is made from natural resins.

One thing, you probably are not going to find quality incense at the mall or a major retail store. Your school can at the very least tell your where to purchase if they don't sell it directly. If you reside in a Western country I would recommend seeking out and finding a shoppe that sells imported items from India or Nepal. This is the finest quality in my opinion.

Whatever you find, just burn it near an open window and the scent will not be too strong inside the house.

Incense a.k.a. joss sticks, One of Chinese and Japanese traditional worship offerings for some of religions and for some very respective someone's one of the good reposing objects to makes you feel calm positive energy..
Burning the what kind of exclusively incenses, I'm sorry I have no idea. It may depends on your martial art school demands, (you know for some nice and very decent incense it's very expensive, regarding of what kind material they made of, from high-level to very cheap quality, so...)

im buddhist and yes we burn this preffered incense all the time. ur martial arts school either burns this to wish good luck in business or to give a feeling of culture, or to meditate.

u can buy this incense for cheap in different sizes at chinese stores like a chinese furniture store.

the incense is made of a bamboo shaft dipped in different ingrediants that are hard to find.


i would recommend buying it instead of making it.

Try some nag champa, super hit or sandalwood incense. They all smell good.

any chinese or asian market sells this type of incense, and I use the same stuff myself.. don't listen to ignorant people who say not to take it so seriously, incense is burned to give thanks to Kwan Gung (guan gong) and Kwan yin ,and also to remember your ancestors and members of your family who are not with you anymore.. or to pray for someone who is ill or in hospital
