the 5 speed has more lower end torque. you'll get better mileage with the 6 speed, but if you live in a city, you'll get tired of all the clutching and shifting. Spend the bucks and enjoy the sportronic. if you really want the feel of "shifting" then use the sportronic feature and use the bump feature.
It is just like the porsche tiptronic.

Generally, a standard manual tranny is used for power. That's why all the dragsters have manuals. When you shift and let out the clutch, you can do it so that you get a little power boost, but it's kinda hard to do.
Otherwise, the sportronic tranny's let you use "manual shift" option for certain road requirements. Gives you a "manual' feel without losing the luxury of an auto tranny.
Since it's a 5 spd sportronic, I'd get that. Six gears is quite a bit to go thru on a manual tranny!!! But then, I'm a middle-aged "old fart" who's tired of getting a sore elbow from all that shifting!!

For around town usage the automatic CVT will provide the best economy. If you see a Altima with a six speed buy it my dealership has had 6 coupes 4 4 cyl 2.5's and two V-6 both with CVT's All sell like hot cakes so order one today. Put money down to hold the car of your choice. Get custom wheels included with the car deal! Sve the stock rims to sell to a 4 cyl Altima Coupe owner. They are great cars I want to dirve it with a SIX speed too!
