Chancellor Gusenbauer's new government has said it will look at this issue and perhaps reduce the term of service. But, given the rise of the terrorist threat in Europe, the need for more peacekeeping forces under Chapter Six of the UN Charter and Austria's planned purchase of the Eurofighter, I don't see Austria abandoning conscription for a number of years.
