Buy a flush kit from an auto parts store. Prestone also makes a chemical to add to the flush to help break up the rust, get one of those also.

The reason for the rust is that the anti-freeze was not changed. When new, there are additives that will prevent the rust and improve the flow of the fluid. The liquid is worn out and the additives have been used up.

Once it is cleaned and flushed, add new coolant and you should be fine for a couple of years. good luck.

You should not see rust color unless it had >water< in the cooling system. Some coolant is red but you would be able to tell if it was ment to be red. I would flush it out and put fresh coolant in it.

*after you find out if the cooling system is working properly*

Your precise its a collection of artwork and truthfully no longer well worth it. you may wash the below edge and use RUST-O-LE EM sort paint which would be sprayed over rust and could help shield the truck from added rusting.

the main problem was lack of coolant change. driver have a habit of not changing coolant and cause it to turn to rust. rust eat up metal parts and cause coolant flow problem. in your case, your engine have a bag headgasket or cracked cylinderhead. this repairs cause about 900.00 dollars. once the rust is form inside to the engine, it will never go away.
