MuslimRose (the busy… I understand, what about your Muslim sisters outside of the US, surely you must care yet you do nothing about it. As long as you're OK... I understand.

Lynnie F.. Thanks for answering, so beheadings are OK then? It's funny, but the most attrocious disrespect for human life is usually found in Islamic strongholds around the world. Meanwhile their American brothers and sisters are OK with it, as long as their right are protected.

Let's just say, when I think of Islam the words that come to mind aren't modern and tollerant. lol

I think it really doesn't matter whether or not the people doing the violent acts are doing them because Islam says to. These people claim to be doing it because Islam says to and that's what matters. Most of the rest of the world doesn't understand Islam, and so if the only thing we know about it is that people are being beheaded, stoned, and oppressed then that's what we are going to think Islam is about.

In my church, we are taught that each one of us may be the only Bible others ever read and we may be the only Christian someone else knows, and it's the same for these radical Muslims: they are all we know, and so they are how we see Islam.

I've always said that the majority of Muslims are just like us and just trying to live their lives and do their things, but the human animal is a judgemental and intollerant one, and so the perception of Islam as a violent religion persists and will persist so long as this jihaad goes on.

See? That's case and point: the only word most people know is "jihaad" ... people associate "Muslim" with war.

Now, I'm not saying Americans are any better ... I know the things that are attatched to "American" but I'm just explaining the deal with Islam and what's associated with it.

My dearest UltraStooge,

Let's not pinhole an entire religion into such a narrow group. Could a Muslim not also be modern and barbaric or tolerant and violent? I think you are selling your answerers short by providing such limited categoric descriptions...anyways I'm only answering because I'm 2 point away from Level 6! So stereotype all you want - thank you for the platform in which to reach the next level. Please don't be jealous of my obvious success (or my ability to waste LOTS of time)!

Off to do some work now.

Fondly, Smellyfoot.

Both my fiend. As with all protected texts the ones with superior upper body strength usually end up 'interpreting' scripture.

At issue is the warrior Muhammad. As Buddha came from a life of privilege to find happiness in humility and reflection, Muhammad was a man of war who found peace. The problem arises when fundamentalists focus only on the warrior and not the peace message.

I hear the war drums echoing again...they call "Death to Stoogie, death to Stoogie..."

How far do we want to go?

Yes, the Koran is even darker than the Torrah. The Christians came up with this "Love thy neighbor" crap.

The root question is: Is religion an exercise of hate?

Yes, the modern doctrines each evangelize a different sectarian Deity, excluding and outwardly shunning and damning all others as false pathways.

Let me ask this: Are the ways of God and these so called "Words of God" even remotely similar?

No. A simple study of the Gospels reveals a man different than the one Saul of Tarsus idolizes on the road to Damascus...Quo Vadis, my Stooge? Quo Vadis?

Islam is based from the word salam which means peace really... if you read anything about islam you find things that are good and you find things that are terrible... but myself, having many Muslim friends, don't judge the religion harshly, also i am a soldiers wife, he was in Iraq for a year... im just saying that Islam itself isn't a violent and barbaric religion, its the peoples way of communicating their lives through the religion, i mean there are crazy Christians, crazy Hindu people, crazy everything.... its just the way the people execute the religion, now on the tolerant part... in my opinion Islam is not, it is not just a religion, it is a way of life... but that is just my opinion... who knows...

It is anything but modern.

Some followers might be tolerant, but the doctrine is not.

It inspires violence and barbaric acts in its followers disproportional to levels found in non-religious people or people of other faiths.
