In Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray, there is such a huge shortage in the construction industry that you'll get a job as soon as you arrive.
However, you'll also have a hard time finding any kind of housing (for the same reason that there is a shortage of workers, the booming economy has created a huge housing shortage). If you do find a place to stay, it will be very, very expensive.
If you choose smaller centres in Alberta, such as Lethbridge, Red Deer or Medicine Hat or possibly Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, you are also likely to find work, and will likely have a better chance of finding affordable accomodation as well.

Yes, Alberta has lots of jobs, but there's also a housing problem!
Come to Saskatchewan - they are CRYING for carpenters, there's a really good boom on in Saskatoon, and Regina to a lesser extent. Wages are good, housing is great, standard of living is amazing!

Previous responders were all correct to point you west to either Calgary or Edmonton. Okanagan Valley in B.C. is looking for tradesmen as well. Before you commit, if you think you can handle it, check out the pay in Yellowknife. Can be very attractive to a young guy starting out. Good luck..

Calgary and Edmonton have a shortage of skilled labourers in the housing market. They don't have enough people to keep up with the demand for new housing.

Alberta! Please come to Alberta.
Yes there is a housing crunch too. However, some companies are trying very hard to help their employees find places to live.
There are so many jobs here you won't have a problem finding one.
