Salam Aleykum!

what do you think about those muslims (mostly females) who do not wear hijab and please note that they are not beginners, like they need courage to take it on (i know it can be hard when you first wear it) but i am talking about those muslims and muslimas who don't wear Islamic clothes however they are muslims for long years and they claiming that the The Holy Qur'aan does not speak about it (AstagfiruAllah) and they claim that they can remove the hijab and the beard because " we are in europe and if i do not wear these clothes etc. then the others will not even notice my faith"..

I know that some of you might think: oh, Noor is so evil, she sure wants to mess with us and with liberal muslimas, no.. i don't wanna mess, i am just sad that there are so many muslimas and muslims who show these examples about us for non-muslims, for anyone (like you can always join prayers and not to pray at work, you can reveal your beauties, you can go to the beach etc)
opinions?

Fooling them selves. Islam it self is very dynamic and covers all aspect of life, and no limitation of time.
These peoplewho call them selves progressive does not have enough knowledge of Religion but poses that they know every thing. There is difference between symbols and teachings, according to Qura'n and Sunnah.
Some people do not read and understand or some times do not want to understand (I would say it is denial of God's teaching and denial of God's teaching is as bad as denial of God Almighty).
Islam forbid Alcohol 1400 years back, and now slowly so called liberals or broad-minded people realizing dangers of intoxication and banned it first at work places, now driving and tomorrow may be on other places as well. But ego is still the big factor. Why follow Islam?
This is just one example if you see you will find it is true for each teachings of Islam ( The Religion, Religion of Prophets.Islam not founded by Prophet Muhammad, He was the last and final Prophet of Islam. )

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Well, to define terms, the term "liberal Muslim" is meaningless. There is only Islam. A Muslim is a person who believes in the six fundamental pillars of Shahadah, The Books, the Prophets, the Angels, the Day of Judgment, and Allah's Divine Decree. They also must fulfill the five pillars of practice, namely, declaring Shahadah , prayer first and foremost, fasting, zakah, and hajj. This is basically what makes a Muslim and this is how we base our understanding of who is a Muslim.

If a person sincerely believes that hijaab is not obligatory and that certain practices of Islam can be discarded, we should say of that person that she is incorrect in her belief. We should counsel that person, show proofs, and not give up in trying to help that person learn the truth of Islam. To boycott such a person is to allow him or her to fully discard all of Islam and then, Allah forbid, be outside the fold of Islam. We should make caring and honest du'a for that person to come to a more correct understanding of the religion.

There is a line drawn between people who still pray and those who have abandoned prayer, as Allah's Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, told us that "Between Islam and disbelief is the prayer". So if a person has abandoned the prayer, this is a much more serious sin than not wearing hijaab or a beard. Such a person should definitely be counseled in private, not harangued in public, so that they will understand the danger they are putting their soul in.

There are those who have completey gone over to the other side. They have abandoned their Islam completely in the name of "modernity" and take pride in not being identified at all as a Muslim. These people should be counseled as well but it is also important for knowledgeable Muslims to refute their lies which they make in public.

We live in a time when knowledge of Islam is severely on the declline. People who call themselves Muslims engage in every debased action and bow to idols and make tawwaf around the graves of the dead. We must work hard to educate our brothers and sisters and help them know their Deen. Hijaab and the beard are not the first line of attack. The abandonment of these are only symptoms of a deeper ill. And Allah knows best.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

aslam09221 answer is right on the money. Many Muslims are trying to say there are Modern Muslims or liberal Muslims but these Muslims are trying to change Islam and this is a Sin. What I think is that these women have been so influenced by the media that they do not know what Islam is. They walk around in skin tight clothing with a head covering and claim it is hijab. NO, Hijab is dressing with modesty, covering one self and not flaunting.. I agree with you. Also, want to thank you publicly for your email about my aviator. I changed it, I did not even think about it (the picture of the woman) and how it was haraam.. Thanks and masalaama.

You are right sister.
I agree with "Humble, Aslam, Ishfaq, and Ismail Eliet ".
Islam itself very dynamic religion.
Islam is from God Almighty, and God Almighty is not dependent of Human's corrections or alterations to correct or improve Religious teachings and laws.
Islam's teachings and commands covers present and future aspects and prevent future problems Humans cannot even visualize.
Very simple example on a traffic signal if there is red light traffic has to stop, even if there is no traffic coming, Other wise you will get ticket. The reason is there are potential of accident and when ever some one disobey signal, in most of the cases accidents occurred.
Same way God Almighty knows best. Exploitation and exposing our bodies definitely creates some emotional changes. Not every human is strong in his or her emotion controls may become victim of emotions and harm some one. History shows most of the cases are result of activities against religious teachings and instructions.
If some one do not want to realize and due to ego problem do not want to accept truth no one can convince such people.

O children of Adam! We have sent down to you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment, however, the best clothing is the clothing of piety. This is one of Allah's revelations so that the people may learn a lesson. (Holy Quran:7:26)

Of cause every Muslim men or women should have this basic thing in their hearts called 'piety' which is the best of clothings. If that's not their makes problems. However what is inside is seen outside also. If there is a good seed planted beneath the earth, we see the buds coming out and later shows flowers and brings fruits. It is the piety in one's heart makes one lower their gaze. Wear a modest dress and Hijab etc. As for women it is a commandment of Allah and we all are asked to obey Allah and His messenger in all our affairs.

What makes Islam so speacial it brings things into practical. Even Holy Bible says to Cover a women's head and shave off the heads that are un-covered. So there is nothing called Liberal Islam to take things one's self desires and omit what is not needed.
But mistake or sins may happen from a Muslim. Iblees (satan) committed a sin and Adam also committed a sin. The differance is Iblees instead of being sorry and repenting justified his actions. Adam but repented to Allah. We are Adam's sons and shouldn't follow the ways of Iblees (Satan) to support and justify our immoral action through religion. It's quite dangerous I say. If one is not able to act upon because of one's weakness, Allah will decide his or her matter and we are not to be a judge for all.

I think that dress is the reflection of ones faith and self-value. I myself am not officially a muslim girl (whatever that means), but I share many of the values and principals of Islam. I do not wear the hijab but I dress modestly and never show off my body. Its not necessarily because I don't believe or respect that practice, but because I think that its not necessary to reflect my faith like that. I know that Allah or God or whatever name is given knows what I really believe. Some of the modern women these days wear the hijab just as a symbol and walk around in tight fitting clothes and jeans. What is the point of the hijab at that point? Nothing really. But I think that all of this crap about "modernism" and whatnot is stupid. Just because you take the clothes off the girl doesn't make her more modern. There's nothing wrong with modesty. If you take the hijab off the woman the ideas in her head are still the same. Its an interesting question that you pose. By the way, I'm going to marry into Islam.

And just to let you know, all of the oppressive things that are associated with Islam are in fact not reflections of the religion itself. Islam is one of the most liberating religions to women. All of the practices like killing women and keeping them in the house are STRICTLY CULTURAL. They have nothing to do with Islam.

Hijab is not about liberal or fundamental Islam.
Hijab is a legal requirement and compulsory for Muslim women.

The type / limitation of hijab is Liberal or fundamental because the Islamic scholars have different opinion for the type of hijab. Some allow to show face and hands in a moderate fashion but some insist on covering of full face and hands. You may choose any of these scholars.

Those who don't observe hijab are not liberal but sinners and they shall be responsible for their act.

Hannity is himself absurd, and what passes for "ideas" in his cloud-and-cuckoo world even more so. I would rather listen to chalk being scraped on a blackboard for hours than tune in this phony baloney, pompous, lying scum maggot for five minutes. I have, simply to keep posted on the latest lies, exaggerations, insanity, projections, and fantasies from the crackpot filth of the neo-Nazi U.S. ultra-right wing, tuned into this coward's television propaganda from time to time. If there are "liberals" calling this subcretinous moron, at the very least, one may rest assured they were carefully edited and selected for their lack of coherence. More likely, considering the reputation of this conscienceless slime and his cohorts, they're downright fake...as fraudulent as that red phone the nincompoop Beck has, not connected to anything, whereby he pretends he may be called by persons in authority. These shills are propaganda shills for hire, the lowest of the low! Who would care? Only psychopaths can tolerate for long this semi-literate skank slug, anyway.

I'm with you sister..... i think if you're Muslim..... you should be proud of Islam. To me the liberal Muslims that you describe above are like the black women who die their hair blonde and wear blue contacts.... as black people (african-american is one of my many ethnicities :) we have a rich history and much to be proud of..... acting that way makes it seem as though you wish you had someone else's history instead of your own. The liberal Muslims are the same way.... our religion is perfect and has a rich history..... you should want people to know that you're Muslim....

The hijab and the beard are always going to stand out in non- Muslim countries..... and u will be viewed as out of the ordinary..... but recently i heard this hadith which made all of that ok with me

"Islam began as something strange, and it would revert back to its old position of being strange, so glad tidings to the strangers."

-Prophet Muhammad (Saw)

Peace and Blessings,
Sakina

I don't know enough about Islam to have an informed opinion, but it would seem to me as an outsider that Islam, like other religions, would have more "orthodox" adherents and more "liberal" ones as well. As long as they declare themselves muslims, stand with you on core issues, and don't bring dishonor to the religion/culture, is it really so important that they don't wear the hijab?

I would think that they would be extremely valuable to your community because they make Islam more accessible to outsiders.
