Hi
I might be participating in a project that requires me to translate a 60 page English course into Spanish. It's pretty basic English. Can someone PLEASE give me an idea of what other translators might charge for something like this?Any feedback helps.Thanks.

Are you competing with other people in submitting your quote? The rates quoted by JJ are agency rates and the poor translator only gets a fraction of the amount in question. It is pretty cutthroat at the moment and I noticed that in an invitation to bid last week the person concerned seemed to think that Euros 0.07 per word was a good deal for a rather technical job. If you are bidding, don't go above Euros 0.08 per word or you'll find that other people are undercutting you. If you are lined up to do the job, then you could charge Euros 0.10 per word. (I think that the Euro is more or less in step with the US $ at the moment, as you don't state your currency.)

Most translators charge by the word, not the page. A standard going rate is about $.10 per word, with some people charging less (around $.07) and some more (up to $0.15). The price you charge depends on your experience, the complexity of the translation, and its length. Often, people will charge less for a very lengthy translation (10,000 or more words).

As mentioned in a previous answer, a lot of times, translators charge a standard set fee for jobs under a specific word count. For example, anything under 1000 words is $50.

Hope this helps.

Once I needed a birth certificate translated to English, for a very small page, I was charged $50.
I speak both languages, but it had to be certified.
I know I'm not a translator or interpreter like you asked for, but it's an idea of what I paid.

Although not an official translator, I work with people who do this work. The normal fee for general translation work into 'common' languages, like French, Spanish, German and Italian is £8.50 to £10.00 (sterling) per 100 words. More difficult and less 'common' languages are up to £14 per 100 words. Technical text also secures a premium.

In life you don't have to know it all, you just have to know where to look it up. So - call a court/police station or look in th yellow pages for translators. Then call them and find out how much they would charge you to translate your document. At least you'll know the prices are legit. Here, who knows what you'll get. It may vary from state to state as well.

Hire a bi-lingual high school student who speasks and writes both English and Spanish. Maybe pay him minimum hourly rate or buy him a Nintendo DS light ($129.00)
