We are Not Only saved by Grace

Salvation has many components:

1. saved by grace – Rom. 3:23,24; Titus 2:11; Eph 2:5,8

2. saved by faith – Acts 16:31; Eph. 2:8; I Peter 1:9

3. saved by confession – Rom. 10:10; I John 1:9; James 5:16

4. saved by repentance – Luke 13:3; II Cor. 7:10; II Peter 3:9

5. saved by baptism – Mark 16:16; John 3:5; I Peter 3:21

6. saved by the Holy Ghost – John 3:5; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13,14

7. saved by endurance – II Tim. 2:10; James 1:12; Heb. 3:6

It seems that many want the easy way out.
We aren't only saved by Grace but we are also saved by many other components that are often ignored by those who don't believe that anything else saves.

1. The OT concept. There are several aspects of "salvation" in OT thought. First, salvation implies that a person or nation is in great distress - perhaps related to danger from enemies or to suffering caused by some disaster. In such situations the sufferers do not have the ability to help themselves.

Second, salvation involves a deliverer (a savior). This is a person who acts on behalf of the sufferers to deliver them from their distress.

Third, the action of the deliverer effects a release from the circumstances that caused the suffering. Thus, salvation portrays movement - from distress to safety.

2. The NT concept. The core concept established in the OT is carried over into the NT. In fact, the Greek verb swzw (to save) also implies rescue from some life-threatening danger. In the NT, it is God or Jesus who acts to deliver believers from dangers that threaten not only their physical life but also their prospect of eternal life.

I understand that "Saved by Grace" means that without Jesus we couldn't be saved by by his grace we are able to. Im trying to point out that when people use this verse, they use it as to say that we don't have to do anything but just believe that Jesus is our savior.

Yet, the Devil also believes. Is he saved too? No

Salvation is all of these

Here are some Bible verses that help explain salvation:

Believe
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. - John 3:16-18 (NIV)

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. - Mark 16:16 (NIV)

Understand
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. - Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV)

It is by the name of Jesus Christ ... Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. - Acts 4:10,12 (NIV)

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God - Romans 3:23 (NIV)

Confess
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord - Acts 3:19 (NIV)

Change
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. - Isaiah 55:7 (NIV)

Receive
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - John 1:11,12 (NIV

Really good question, dude.

The predominant principle in most orthodox Christianity (particularly Protestant Christianity) is salvation in Jesus Christ through faith alone. There are lots of verses, particularly in Paul's letters that emphasize that point. But then, you read the book of James, you read some portions of Hebrews, and even the gospels themselves and Jesus' own words... and it begins to get hazy.

Belief and "works" (good deeds) are intertwined constantly and there have been different theological views on what exactly is most important for centuries. I don't think ANYbody could write an exhaustive description of the differing views on this, but suffice it to say it's not a simple answer (like most things in the area of faith)

If you had to pin me down though... I'll ALWAYS vote for grace :)

It's easy to say you're saved by grace, but the Apostle Paul also tells us to work out our salvation with fear and trebling...that takes work and a large number of people would rather be "saved by grace" and not have to work at it. Salvation is a free gift but faith, confession, repentance, baptism, endurance and the Holy Spirit are all part of that too.

...For a soul's salvation, we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus alone.
...Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, that no one should boast.
...Acts 4:12 - And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.
...Salvation is in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, apart from any works, church membership, acts of charity, water baptism, supposed miraculous manifestations, etc.
...We must trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation - it is Jesus + nothing else added - or else you have a tainted, perverted gospel, and not the Gospel of the Bible.
...The other verses are not necessarily speaking of salvation, and those in Mark 16 are not consistent with the rest of Scripture - those verses are not found in the oldest manuscripts.
...It is not the "easy way out". It cost the Lord Jesus Christ His life's blood - and the complete salvation He provides gives Him all the glory - Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe.
...Brother/sister, if you think you can add anything to Christ's work on the cross and His resurrection, it is an incredible insult to the Lord and you are dead wrong, and in danger of Hell fire - you had better check your doctrine, and examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith.
...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and be saved.
(Acts 16:31)
...Whosoever will, may come.

The mainstream media proprietors and their newspapers advise applicants. Their sister companies help those applicants with the aid of giving them suited press. Democrats loath great companies yet are wanting to spoon with the mega media companies that run the revealed and broadcast information. The media, frankly, could no longer be happier over the close races in the two the Republican and Democrat events. Makes for advantageous information. Plus, the longer those close races proceed, notably in the direction of great Tuesday, the greater $$$thousands and thousands$$$ they're going to make from political classified ads. CA-CHING!!!

Because many in the Body of Christ only read what they are told to read on Sunday or whenever they attend Church. They take the bible to Church for show and as soon as they get home, on the shelf it goes until next service. What I am saying is that they are not reading, studying and meditating on the word like they are supposed to. A deeper understanding of Gods word comes from God Himself and the only way to achieve understanding is to spend time with God and His word. That is why people focus on some things and not ALL things in the word.

Anyway, you make some good points. Thanks for posting.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—" Ephesians 2:8

All of those other things 'in and of themselves', will not save you.

They are all wonderful things that are part of 'getting saved' & 'staying saved' in regards to: We are required to do them in order to accomplish God's Salvation plan & to remain in his will...However, I wouldn't want to give people the wrong impression by saying that any of those things can save you (by themselves)

It is God's grace alone that actually saves us. However, like any gift, a person has to first accept (recieve) it ---

This is done by:
ACKNOWLEDGING/ADMITTING our sin before God and need of a Savior...
BELIEVING Jesus died on the cross, and that through this we 'may' be saved. (However realizing it's not an automatic fix...We first must accept him into our heart) We must also believe it is by this alone that we can be saved...and not through good works, etc.
CONFESSING our Sin before him.

*All of those things you listed are part of the Salvation plan. You did make a very valid point. But like I said, I'd be careful that unbelievers don't mis-interpret that as there are other ways of Salvation other than through Christ.

We're saved by grace......meaning that we are saved by the free gift of Jesus Christ. Having endurance doesn't save us if not for Jesus, having faith would not save us if not for Jesus, being baptised would not save us without Jesus, confession wouldn't save us without Jesus. That's why people focus on grace---nothing we *do* is going to save us, rather what Jesus did/does saves us. We respond to that grace through faith, through baptism, by enduring in faith etc. yet the starting point is always what Jesus did not what we do.

You are absolutely right. Good works are also important. Many think that works are nothing due to certain scriptures; but, if that where the case then all the good works that Jesus did wouldn't mean anything. Not to mention it would be possible to get to heaven as a bad person as long as you accept Christ. Getting closer to Christ is a life long journey.

We are not saved by other components other than the love of God for us that he gave his only son to die for us on the cross. That who ever believed would have ever lasting life. Check out the whole chapter of John 3.

Jesus said that "No one could come to the father except through the son." How more plainer did he need to state it.

Yes, this is the Grace we are saved by and through our faith in this promise we are saved. The faith doesn't save us it is the act of Christ on the cross.

It is however up to us to believe this and except this through faith in him. We have to say "Yes Lord I want what you offer me through your grace and love for me. "

This is the believing is the faith in Act 16:31

In Romans 10:10 it is referring to the ABC'S of being saved. You have to believe and confess to him.

A /Admit that you are a sinner

B/ Believe in him

C/ Confess your sins and turn away from them and walk his path.

But the Grace has to be there to begin with.

Now as far as saved by baptism. It isn't the baptism that saves it is the believeing in him. He asks that we be baptised as an outward symbol of an internal happening.

I don't want to go over each of your points verse by verse because then I would be defeating the whole purpose of my answer.

Don't just go to the Bible to look up verses with actually studing the word closely and reading all of the chapter itself, just tryuing to justify the conclusion you went to the Bible tryig to prove in the first place. In reading your post it seems that is exactly what you did. You can interpret the word but when you are reading the Bible ask the Lord to reveil himself to you through his word.

You can not quench your thrist by drinking from an empty cup.
If you are truly wanting to understand Gods word ask him to show you something in a way you never saw it or understood it before. That way it will be show you he is teaching you something and your not justifiing something you already thought to begin with. Evita
