Jesus can, because He is without sin.

Jesus was trying to prove, like you said that people often do it for attention and pride. That is why he asks us to not pray in public. However, if you are amongst a group of other Christians, then I would believe it is ok to pray out loud. Jesus, you have to remember, also lived in a different time and expressing and practicing religion was more the central purpose of their lives. So, it was not absurd to see someone praying in public. I think he wanted us to genuinely/meaningfully pray...not try to impress those around us.

If you understand the context, Jesus was referring to the Pharisees who made prayer a "show". They flaunted thier prayers as if they were better people. Jesus felt prayer should be a humbling experience. You are focusing on the idea of praying in public or private, Jesus focused on the idea of praying with a humble spirit.

Prayer is private between you and God. But he did pray in public a few times to show how prayer should be done. or he prayed with the public which is also different. On the occasions he prayed privately to god in public, he also said to all those around him that this is how to pray; from the heart to God.

That's when he was talking about people who 'pray in public', 'do good deeds only in public'. God wants us to have a personal relationship with our prayers, not JUST for the public to view. Praying public is a good thing. But, it is not a good thing, IF we only do it then, to look good.

If you recall, He was in private. I think I know what you're talking about. He took His disciples up to a place where He prayed, but no one knew He went there... or few knew He did. The Pharisees didn't know He was there before Judas told them.
That's my best guess, but to be honest, I can't explain everything. God is above my understanding.

Excuse me! Wasn't he telling us not to pray for the sake of being seen and admired? Wasn't that the point about the example of the two praying?

Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret...."
He is talking about hypocrites who pray so that people will see them and think they are holy.

No, He meant not to make a big show of praying, like you want people to think you're all that.
I don't feel proud at all when I am praying in church. I feel humbled.

Hypocrisy comes to mind.
He also said to love your enemies, but he’s going to deep-fry his.
And demolishing a synagogue and whipping people for selling birds is not the kind of behavior you’d expect from god in the flesh. But then again when did the biblical god ever behave properly?
