The story is a bit of a glurge, but having recently retired from the Army, I can tell you that it is not only possible, but common.
Chaplains have been a part of the US military since the American Revolution. I've met some that I liked better than others, but all of them are warm, compassionate, and caring. When you have to take care of the psychological woes of men and women who are thrown into the most stressful circumstances known to mankind, you have to be good.
Kudos to Father Jeff. And thanks to the Soldier who wrote the story -- yeah, there are mispellings and grammatical errors, but it is heartfelt and sincere. Not enough of the good news manages to esscape the clutches of the mainstream media in their drive to have us lose.

Yes Priests are always forward deployed in ALL branches of the military. I don't know if you know that Catholic Priests are the only Chaplains that can give last rites. Priests that are in the field love their jobs and wouldn't change their jobs for anything. Priests are always attached to Marine units as well.

I personally can't vouch for this story, but there is much like this that goes on over there. Good things that are not told to the American public all in the name of politics. This type of story hurts the mainstream media's agenda. Period.

I think they are called chaplains although I heard they had to rename them in IRAQ so as not to offend anyone's religion. Army Chaplains have been around for years, I know they had them in WWII, and probably longer.
