Newsweek poll:
March 31, 2007: Conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International.

This survey reflects that faith is very much alive and well in America. America continues to prosper because of his rich heritage of faith in the living God.

May God continue to bless America.

May God not only continue to bless America, but the whole world. As people of faith we must remember to pray for everyone, not just for the people of our country, faith, religion or race, but EVERYONE. May God bless the world and everyone in it. Peace and God bless.

Katie what you have to realize is that people committing crimes do not represent the majority of the world's population. Peace and God bless.

Gandalf, at least today, has a great retort.

The UnPope does disprove your ones in fact it echoes it.

You can't lump ATHEISTS in with AGNOSTICS.

Atheists DO NOT BELEIVE IN GOD, Agnostics are waiting, one way or the other, for proof.

82% are indeed Christians, the rest are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and spirtualists.

YOUR poll says: the number reflects people with "FAITH"

People here need to get their reading comprehension up!

Buddhists have FAITH

But they have no GOD

But they do have FAITH

So if we add 9% to the 82% are Christians including the Hindus, Shiks, Muslims, Jews (about 1-2% each) we come up with your 91% figure

We subtract ATHEISTS from AGNOSTICS and we come up with about a 3-4% figure for Agnostics, there is also that "declines to state"

ATHEISTS have decided TO state uniquvically! They don't believe.

Only 4% openly don't believe.

The rest decline to state, which means they don't chose to align themselves with either Atheists or Theists or those of Faith openly.

No, that only says that 91% who resonded to a newsweek poll are religious types. It also says that more than 10% are of no religion, atheist or agnostic.
I would have liked to see some more about the methodology of the survey considering that only 1004 people were interviewed. It seems like it could have been easily skewed.

Yes, but guess what, there are people of MANY FAITHS in America. Not just Christian. So I would find that survey a little off.

I do get annoyed when people try to grab the word "faith" and have it mean only their beliefs.

Too bad for you I'm European. Why would I care what you guys in America do?!? And on the same line, why the Hell would an American care?!? Non-religious people have not given up on their so-called-faith because of fashion, unlike those who say that "Jesus will save them" just because it's cool!

And btw: you're speaking about a nation that's got at least 70% of the population brain-washed and idiotized - the big flock.

Well damn. You win the popularity contest. Aw shucks, whatever will I do without the security of knowing that a majority of the American population agrees with me?

Good thing I don't have a weak mind or that may bother me. Perhaps you should take a look at global statistics.

Perhaps the fact that 91% of the American population are "people of faith" explains why America has one of the highest crame rates in the world. *Things that make you go "Hmm".* That must explain all the hate, rape, killing, theft, etc. I wonder what percentage of our prison population is Christian?

*Psst: This is a secular nation.*

How're you defining "prosper"? Because, last time I checked, we're setting the record for personal and government debt. There are more people committing suicide then there used to be and they're starting at younger ages. And have you seen the stats for eating disorders? Or any sort of emotional / mood disorder? They're going through the roof compared with what they used to be.

Where's the other 5%? I mean, you're either a theist or an atheist. Most polls groups agnostics with atheists so your Newsweek poll is missing 5% of the population.

It is also true that more than 90% of the human race all over the world have

(1) Discriminatory tendencies towards at least one group of people

(2) Habit of evading responsibilities, especially tax

(3) Sexist behaviour

and so on

Shall we also accept that human race continues to prosper because of these things I have cited above?

Did you know 4 or 5% is MANY times more than it was 200 years ago?

I think science and recent discoveries might have something to do with that.

Did you know that, if it weren't for Emperor Constantine making Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire, Christianity may well have remained an obscure religion, if it could have survived at all?

Did you know that early Christian apologists tried to explain away Christianity's similarities to MANY previous pagan religions by claiming Satan came in advance and seeded these prior pagan religions with those similarities in order to discredit the "true" religion to come; namely, Christianity?

lol . . . that's sort of like what the Fundamentalists are doing now -- claiming that God layered dinosaur bones and fossils in the earth to test our "faith". . . lol . . . now THAT'S a good one!

nope. i didn't know. and i don't care, actually. what's that supposed to mean? that 91% americans don't think? well done then!
i don't understand your point! the fact that they believe in god, doesn't make them clever and/or right.
you must be too fanatic... it's your right to believe and worship whomever you want, but JUDGING people ONLY by their religion, is wrong. it's your choices and actions that make you a human, not your religion. how old are you, really? this 91% of ''religious'' americans commit those crimes every day.

#1 America is no where near prospering anymore.
#2 The figures you just quoted just add to the fact that everyone in the rest of the world knows, that most Americans are ignorant sheeple.
