yet again the posters on here have no idea what they are talking about and give BAD advice. firstly your hair will NOT break off from colouring it too much, the only way it will break is if it was bleached too far (i.e. to white) secondly it sounds that you haven't been bleached far enough, the bleach for your highlights should of been taken off at the pale yellow stage (think inside of a banana skin- creamy/pale yellow) so that when the hair blended together you get the appearance of blonde, this is the salons mistake hence you should go back and they SHOULD rectify the problem free of charge, most salons survive upon reputation so they will want to see clients leaving happy with their hair and the service provided. and thirdly if you DID want to attempt to do this yourself at home then it IS possible but you would have to get a highlighting kit and some bleach and try and pick out the same slices of hair that the hairdresser did and apply the bleach until pale yellow (if you did a strand test first this would then determine how long to leave the bleach on before reaching the correct level) NEVER EVER bleach to white as this is a recipe for disaster, platinum/white hair is achieved by bleaching to the pale yellow stage and then using a platinum toner that has a violet base to make hair APPEAR white. please don't just use an otc colour all over on your hair as not only could you turn your highlights a strange colour you will also change the base colour of your hair (the hair that isn't highlighted) also the shampoos the posters have been reccommending will NOT work on ginger hair, these again have been designed for use on hair already bleached to the correct stage. look at it this way- yellow is opposite to purple on the colour spectrum therefore a toner with a purple base will counteract the yellow and take it to platinum. BLUE is the opposite to orange in the colour spectrum therefore the ONLY colour thay will work on ginger/orange hair is a blue based colour or bleach.

Hi this has happend so often and I think any hairdress that doesnt do the job right should fix it but all they do is tell you that it looks great and then you see the mess they have made when you get home.
I used to hightight my hair my self and decided to get it done at the hairdressers for a change and she ballsed it up, so I just went and got a brown hair dye and it covered the blonde really well, It goes on lighter as the hair is so light underneath that the brown goes on lighter anyways, just dont put on a blonde or light brown as if will go a funny colour so just brown, medium or dark brown will do and dont panick if you think it will be too dark as it wont me.

My mum treated herself to some hightlghts just before my wedding, and the hairdresser ballsed that up to, I felt so bad for my mum as it was a lot of money for the hairdresser to do it wrong, My mum only wanted highlight instead all her hair ended up bleached and the hairdresser didnt even leave the bleach on long enough so in place it was ginger epscially at the ends, so my mum wasnt please so I went and got her a hair dye and applyed it and it went back to normal.
I got her a loreal preference I think but the hair colour was called Capri and that covered brilliantly and got rid of most of the ginger. But it still needed to be darker.

So no to light blonde colour and yes to just brown, and I say in future DIY it and then you know it will go right.

Bblonde is brilliant for highlighing hair and is great for dark or light hair too.

i had this problem a few years ago and whatever you do get it sorted in a salon and dont do it yourself, I made that mistake and made it go even more ginger. What you can do in the mean time though is to buy a silver toner and you can do it yourself as it just washes out. The toner reduces the brightness and the ginger in your hair. Hope this helps

Hi Charlotte,
You prolly don't want to touch your hait yourself because the salon could have used certain chemicals on it that could interfere with home bought products. Like the do-it-yourself type ****, lol. You should use a PURPLE based shampoo. What that does is create BLONDE highlights in your hair! It also gets rid of the ginger (brassy) color your seeing.

Give it a good week before deciding to colour again. Highlights do sometimes come out this colour but usually calm down after a couple of washes. I hope you end up with gorgeous hair whatever you decide to do. (thats not ginger!)

If you just got it done, I would wait a week to let it tone down. If you still are not happy with it, I woud contact the salon and have them tone it down. This way they can fix the problem and you will not have to spend anymore money. If you put color over it yourself, you are spending more money and you may be creating another problem that the salon will not fix unless you pay out more money.

Don't put any more dye on it hun for at least another 6 to 8 weeks. It ruins your hair and especially eithblonde it can go a funny color.

I bet your hair looks fine its prob just different and will take time to get used to. x

Your hair may turn orange from mixing too many colors, and it can break off if you die it too often. Adding a darker blonde may cause stress to the temples as adding heavy colors isn't good for your head.
