If you were out on a resevoir fishing one day with your family. One side of the reservoir is privite land owned by family members and people you know. The other side of the lake is owned buy the county water authority. You have your back to the bank of the side owned by the county and you hear a sound. The sound is like something flying past your head and then something hitting the water. There is not really a spash to see in the water cause what ever it was was small. You look to the bank but see nothing, you are not the only one in the boat to hear it. You move up the lake and everything in fine. On the way back you pass the same area. This time from the woods you just hear a click. I was not the only one in the boat to hear it. You move along swiftly without another sound. It is like someone is in the woods next to the lake. Must be in camo and don't move. I do not have a gun or anything with me so I have no way to fire back. If this is a family and favorite spot do you go back?

I have been going to this spot for 5 + years, 30 times a year and never had a problem.

I guess I still can't beleive it or understand why anyone would do that. Why would anyone want to shoot someone they don't even know?

It sounds to me like there was someone out there that hadn't been out there before. You said this was a family spot and you have been going all those times for the past 5yrs and you never once had an experience like that, i wouldnt stop going from this one time ordeal, however, when you go again~let it be you and ur friends don't bring ur little ones until you know for sure it is safe. But please, report it..the area needs to be checked out. Hope they will see who is doing this and why...this isn't legal nor safe whether he was hunting/or guarding his his "pot". Now if it keeps happening and you know of it/hear of it...i would definitly try to find somewhere else to fish for the safety and benefit of yourself and family. Eventhough it's been safe for all this time, areas can change dramatically....in some scenarios, but find out whats happening over there and do tell the authorites, you will be doing your family as well as many other families a big favor for the safety of their lives.

I had the same thing happen to my family and I. In our case someone innocently (stupidly) was just doing target practice. I heard the bullets whiz by and the gun fire. We ended up honking our car horns and yelling. That made the person stop. In your case, you should notify the local police so they can investigate. The person was on private property and it sounds like they are being malicious. The last thing you and your family needs is to be injured or killed while enjoying your own property.

Well, all you were doing was fishing. Somebody might've thrown a rock at you. It could've been a black, wooly swamp muggy fly, No, I wouldn't go back. Ya' just don't know what goes on back in the holler' ! You're alive right now to tell about it, so maybe you were messing up someone elses fishing hole. If you really think you heard what you heard, don't go back. These are people that evidently DO like you.

Not only no, but HELL NO!!! I wouldn't take my family back to a spot where we were shot at. I would call the authorities and have them look into that area though.

You should have called the police, somethings not right with that. If you go back, stay on the side that family owns.

Notify the ATF that there is a terrorist taking pot shots at people on the reservoir. That will get results, because the ATF is pushing to get more funding and they need to show that what they do is important.

I would absolutely not go back under any circumstances. If you do, you're a glutton for punishment.
