INDIA (Newsroom) – Six Christian missionaries participating in a gospel campaign called "Love Ahmedabad" were beaten so savagely in the state of Gujarat last week that one of the men may lose his arms and legs.

Members of the Hyderabad-based Operation Mobilization (OM) were distributing Bibles and religious tracts in Ahmedabad, about five miles from Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, the afternoon of May 5 when they were attacked by members of the Hindu extremist groups Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Operation Mobilization ships tons of Christian literature around the country. The assailants also burned copies of the Bible and tracts.

Christian missionaries beaten in public for 'converting' Hindus

Television channels showed Hindu activists kicking and punching the two young priests while dragging them through Maharashtra's Kolhapur town.

News footage showed an activist knee one priest in the groin, making him double up in pain. Another kicked the missionary in the head. The crowd accused the priests of forcibly converting poor Hindus, and handed them over to police.

The violence of Buddhist extremists it’s being compared to the killing fields of Cambodia. In Sri Lanka religion has become mixed with politics and nationalism - creating a toxic brew of hatred and fear. They are…… forcibly trying to convert people to Buddhism and forcing people to kneel down to declare Buddha is our god! Read about it

Violence and Buddhism has been historically rare. They're mutually incompatible.

I'll have to read more about it . . .

. . . if true, then religious strife in the world would appear to be getting worse.

Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus . . . I really EXPECT them to fight senselessly . . . these Buddhists, on the other hand, surprise me. It would appear that politics might be playing a large role and is part of the problem.

Evey religion has extremists. The ones of the Hindu/Buddhist religions are much less prevalent than the Abrahamic religions though. I am a Christian and I lived in a very Buddhist country (Thailand) and never once felt threatened.

It's sad that this happens, but it should in now way reflect religions that teach peace and enlightenment.

I don't know if its all true, but damn good for them. If they really did beat up those missionaries. The only reason I say that is, because it seems like those type of Christians don't understand, how happy one can be in their own religion. I can't say I personally would beat them up, but they do make you want to strangle them at times! I read somewhere that the apostles weren't killed because they believed in Christ, they were killed because they were trying to 'save' everyone, and well, you just can't do that.
As far as the Buddhist info I don't believe it either, that seems to opposite of what they are all about.

The first two bits-that's what happens in some countries. And Christians here whine about persecution when someone says 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'. American Christians haven't experienced actual persecution.

Remember that every faith has its extremist elements.

The last bit about Buddhism-I don't believe that. Because Buddhists do not worship Buddha, and they certainly don't believe that he is God. Someone's telling tall tales in that instance.

It's tragic. That said, it is really sad how Christians seem to flaunt whenever they get their buts handed to them for proselytizing their fantasy in the face of other people's fantasies. Keep your bibles to yourselves and they will keep their pudgy Buddha statues to themselves. Stop spreading the religious silliness! This way we can all stop the violence that the "missionary" activities seems to generate.

Well... what are we to do. It is in the nature of people who do not know better to respond the way they do. Can we judge a leopard for attacking a gazelle? An owl for pouncing on a field mouse? People need salvation... not our frowns of disapproval. God BLESS all who are called to the mission fields and who risk their lives for the good news of Jesus Christ!

yes i am aware that these reports are absolutely true...there are several more hideous stories....but i wud rather have people pray for the protection of Christians in India, than simply talk about it....

its getting harder, though missionaries only distribute books and speak openly without any agenda to the public, like any other faith does....

india needs to check her conscience over this...

the mute response of the leaders makes the earth tremble in fear of the Lord's justice ...

Sometimes nosy, busybody folk who are too much drawn to telling other people what's good for them, get their just deserts.

May it become the norm. Christians do better as martres than they do when they're making martres of others.

You have given totally false news about Sri lanka by referring a web site which belongs to a loser terrorist group in Sri Lanka.

LTTe terrorists are misleading people by giving false information about Sri lankans.

Buddhists,Hindus,Muslims and Christians live in harmony in Sri Lanka and terrorists are trying to spoil it.

And if the people doing the beatings were Christians, the answer on YA would be "But their not real Christians"
