I would complain to the drycleaner as well. However, in the meantime, if you still want to use them I would look into getting some decorative trim to add to the bottom. Or, depending on how short they are you could get a coordinating fabric, cut a band the width of each panel and have it attached to the top or bottom of the drapes. This will give you the length you need.

I might tell the dry cleaner that their seamstress should attach whichever you decide on as compensation for the shrinkage. It would be a good customer service move on their part to agree.

Go back to where the work was done. They have insurance to cover these kinds of things. I have a friend that owned a laundry and dry cleaners and he told me they all had insurance for this type of situation. Be persistent because they may not want to cover your loss. I was just 21 when something like this happened to me and I did not pursue it. Later on I found out about the insurance they carry. Today I'd bring my husband with me. I hate to say it, but if the owner is a man they treat you with more respect when another man is with you.

You can lower your drapery rod or let out hem of curtains. Usually, there is about 3 inch hems in all drapes.

I would ask the dry cleaners why they shrunk and if they can be stretched back to original length.

I would definitely go back to where you had them done, and complain. If you have a before and after picture of them hanging, that would be helpful.
