That god was a thief and grudger so it wouldn't surprise me.
There's an interesting detail in that Mesopotamian mythology...
Notice how the reader knows there's a tree of life in the garden, but that god never tells Eve & Adam about it. They are told about the knowledge tree, but not the tree of life. The devil's in the details indeed.

I do hope not. After all that effort to get us not to, and being repeatedly put into the position of watching us repeatedly do it even up to the present day, I would think that even a partially intelligent God would know not to touch the stuff.
Oh, and it was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, not of knowledge. Knowledge itself is not dangerous at all.
A knowledge of Ancient Aramaic idioms goes a long way toward understanding that particular parable, by the way.
