Many people I know are owned by their cats but I tend to believe I'm not quite so inclined to do as they would wish. I run a multi cat house hold (7) and often have next doors 3 also around so I have to be more strict what I say goes if they don't like it tough. They get fed the same biscuits (apart from the one on a vets diet) out of indivual bowls in their own area of the kitchen twice a day at the same time. If they don't eat it tough there is nothing else until the next feed time, they know not to nick others food they get kicked out the kitchen and go hungry. No fighting is allowed and they get restricted on where they can go in the house. No is always no and they understand this. They have to be in by nine at night and sleep in the kitchen together I can't remember how this one started but it still happens even though most aren't kittens anymore. It also might have something to do with birds and rodents in cages in the living room, prey animals and cats don't mix.
However for all these rules I won't move them off laps or do anything to disturb the paddy pawing. I do give into the demands for fuss by picking them up and giving cuddles, after all they do as they are told most of the time. Too many people change things for their cat believing they aren't happy but I believe that my cats are far happier to have boundaries. They know and understand where they are in life. Other peoples cats always seem 'lost' to me. Giving into all demands in their life means they have no challenge left. I know this sounds like a prison camp but it is far from it just some of the things may seem alien to others but not to us!

My cat and I are mates, neither of us owning the other.
Whilst I prepare her food and keep her watered and keep her dirtbox in good order I know that if she had the where-with-all she would fend for herself.
We both tend to ignore the other until we are aware that neither of us are in the same room and will seek the other's whereabouts. Once found a little petting and off again.

My cats definitely own me..........they sleep on my bed during the day (they have the full run of the house) and on my old jumpers (1 each) at night.
I leave the gas fire on for them if the weather is cold.
I don't go to bed until they are both in at night (1.15 the other morning)....... I have to tempt them in with the treat of 1/2 slice of ham each!
They have tuna, chicken and beef, all once a week.

Oh she defiantly owns me. She will not drink water out of a bowl/dish. It has to be flowing from the faucet. She will not eat the crumbles left in her dish. It has to be whole fresh pieces. But you know, I wouldn't have it any other way! It is worth it for the little bit of lovin' at the end of the day.
