My laptop can't read CDs anymore. I would like to install a 56k Modem and thus have to install the software from the Installation CD-ROM. Can I copy the content of the Installation CD-ROM into a portable USB storage and then download and install the software from the portable storage to my laptopn? If yes, how do I copy the content of the CD-ROM to the portable storage?

You should be able to copy the CD to a USB drive (if the drive is large enough to hold all the files).

Insert the CD into another computer. Plug in the USB drive. Open a "My Computer" window so that you can see the files on the CD. Open another My Computer window so you can see the USB drive. Create a new folder on the USB drive to hold the files you want.

Drag the files from the CD to the folder on the USB drive.

Now put the USB drive into your laptop. Go to the folder with the files and run the setup or install for the drivers.
