It showed true rituals? Well, that's news to us Pagans... I'd be interested in knowing which Pagan religion you think it's part of; there's quite a bit of variety in Paganism.
That said, several of the concepts that you mentioned hardly seem "insane" or "sick".
Belief in a goddess? How does the gender of a deity suddenly change whether it's a good idea or not? It's a divine being, how does the fact that it's not masculine make it bad?
Tree-hugging? Not part of every Pagan religion, but, again, not inherently wrong. In the broad sense of the term, evnironmentalism seems a wise idea, preserving what we've got. In a literal sense, some folks hug trees. So? They like trees, and, honestly, trees *are* pretty amazing things. No different than stopping to smell the roses.
Calling down a deity? That's part of many, if not most, religions. Even Christianity has several invocations where they invite God to be present. How are Pagan rites that ask similar things of our gods any different?
Yes, there's some folks here who say Christians are nuts. Welcome to the club, you now understand how us Pagans feel. But, honestly, if you're going to call *other* people nuts, after being called so yourself? I don't see how that helps the situation any.

Its not the fact that people are christians that they are considered "nuts" - its usually because of the responses they give. The Wicker Man is a movie that depicts a hippie commune type existence that takes a nature religion to the extreme which is what most cults do. As for the sacrificial aspects of it, look into the history of most religions and you'll find that at one time they practiced sacrifices also. And for the radicals of any religion, what else could murder in the name of their god be considered except as a murder/sacrifice?
You really need to learn the difference between a movie and reality.

Wow, what a complete genius this one is. It's a movie. You know, fiction. If you insist the Wicker Man is fact, can I assume you think the same of Star Wars? Lord of the Rings? Barney the Dinosaur? The Simpsons?
On top of which, Wiccans aren't even mentioned in that movie! (presuming we're talking the original...I haven't seen the remake) So how are you even making the connection?

1- Don't base your opinion on a movie. Life is not a movie.
2- Pagans and Wiccans are NOT insane. I am Pagan and I have Christians friends.
3- It is questions or rather, opinions like this that make people hate Christians.
4- You answered your own question so this isn't even a question it is YOUR opinion and that is ALL it is and you are totally wrong.
5- You are living in your own little world.....pity.
Good Day.

My, but this is sad! Pagans and Wiccans are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The ones here are more than kind. They seem more loving and accepting than most of the fundamentalists.
How can you make such a sweeping generalization?
I am a Christian, and I really resent this statement.
Why not be kind? Why not be respectful?
Please use some logic here. A movie rarely shows the truth. Movies are fictional most of the time.

i cannot tell anyone what to believe in. I know my own choice is Jesus Christ. If you tell anyone you are on a Christian of this forum, you are subject to very cruel bashing. it is so amazing that people worry about human rights, but the minute you say you follow Jesus, you have no rights left.
and if i misspelled something or make a typo that love to point it out as if only Christians do that.

Speaking as Christian, I have never been laughed at for my beliefs or called nuts. My views have been criticized or at least questioned by others, but never mocked. If you are respectful of others and their right to have their beliefs and are capable of defending your beliefs in a well-reasoned manner, you reduce the likelihood of being laughed at or called nuts.

Actually, being a Pagan practitioner, the movie was totally inacurate in every way. Pagans don't sacrifice humans or animals, it's pointless and wrong. We don't see men as lesser, but equals in every way. We don't use little kids, either--but I sure would like to live in an island community away from those that bring Bibles to my door every year. I liked the movie, but I was offended as well--they could have researched it and given it more thought than to give Pagans a bad name.
I don't hate Christians, thank you. And I don't call you nuts, and I like it if you don't call me one either.

Young Wiccans and Young Pagans have not invited enough demons (evil spirits) inside as yet, but when this happens the Wiccans and Pagans will perform as did those in the movie.
Evil progresses and opening doors to evil spirits as do the Wiccans, Witches and Pagans is a self destructive course. Evil spirits come to kill, steal and destroy human beings. They offer power and knowledge for awhile and then they destroy you.

It doesnt bother me if they call me a nut or whatever they wanna say. I don't know what there beliefs are but the movie itself was stupid. I cannot believe Nicholas Cage starred in that movie. What was he thinking?
