i was on the motorway on Thursday stuck in traffic, and i dont know how but i hit the car in front, it was a very very slow impact maby be like 2mph yes two miles per hour. So we both got off the motorway and stopped on the hard shoulder and there didnt seem to be no damage on his car but a small scratch from before and you could easily tell it wasnt from this accident. We exchanged registration numbers and contact number but no insurance details he, said to me he will get a respray quote and get back to me asap. He still hasnt contacted me, if he doesnt contact me for another 4 or 5 days will he void his insurance by not notifying them about the accident within 48hours ???? please help and what should i do ??
thanks

Hi.
What I can say is, things already happened and nothing much you can do right now since no calls coming to you. If still no calls coming in, probably the story will just end like this.
However, you can take this as an experience and do not repeat next time. I mean do not repeat the same solutions but off course better & ever not get involve in an accident again. Please pay more attention while riding on the road because life will never serve in second chance.
What am I going to suggest to you is:
1.) DO NOT panic when you met with an accident. You should stay calm and find for solutions.
2.) If nothing serious you should settle on the sport instead of exchange details. This will end up with something not expected. Perhaps you can pay some minimal amount base on your own ability but within reasonable amount. REMINDER!! DO NOT ASK THE PERSON TO SEND YOU THE BILL AFTER REPAIR. THIS WILL END UP WITH SOME CRAZY CLAIM!!
3.) If it is serious or not able to solve it on the sport, go ahead with the POLICE REPORT. Do not worry about any troublesome things, it is normal. Let's the police do their work. You can make a police report within 24hours, so you can call up friends or family members or Insurance Agent with no hurry. At least you can have some idea that may help.
4.) For those who knocked and run, please note down the number plate, colour, model, locations & any witness with your sharp sight seeing. Off course you must have a good & quick response. Otherwise, it is also useless.
I hope everything is fine with you now and then. Good luck.

If it was an old car and he's smart he will get it written off and your insurance co will have to give him the book value of the car. Then if he's really, really smart he can legally still drive it and pocket the money! Moral of the story: Be v. v. careful when driving unless you are v. rich because your insurance is about to double ££.
If the police didn't come and file a report and/or there are no witnesses you could still weasel out of it..

You should inform the police about the incident asap so that they have a record of it if your insurance company needs it. You should also tell your insurance company asap about what happened. If you took pictures of the cars afterwards that would be useful. Get on the phone to the police, then the insurance company now.

He will contact his insurance and give them your details. They will contact your insurance company to let them know that they will be proceeding with a claim.

You dont need to do anything

You will get a phonecall off your insurance company to confrim the accidient. This can take a week or months for them to get into contact with you.

The best thing to do is to wait. DO NOT tell your insurance company. Wait for them to contact you. He may decide not to claim.

Even though he may be thinking he can get his car repaired for free. he may be in for a suprise when he realises he will still have to pay his excess and his insurance premiusm will go up. ( i was involved in a big accident which wasnt my fault and my insurance premium went up and i had to pay my excess for the claim)

He should know that if you hit him, you are technically responsible for any damage incurred to his vehicle. Having exchanged details, I imagine he can't be bothered or indeed might have an out-of-date insurance policy. You have done the correct thing, wait for him to contact you, or better still his insurance company with that of yours. Cheer up.

Maybe he wont get the quote. ANd itd be unfair to have you pay for that. Anyway if it was only a small scratch and he wants it claiming ofr, is it really worth it. And if he voids his insurance, so what? Uness if affects you.

Just wait to hear from him. The other driver will not void his insurance. He may have a collision deductible and may not have a claim under his own policy.
If the scratch was already there, he may get an attack of conscience, and you may never hear from him.

If he contacts you with a quote to pay yourself, tell him go through the insurance - he will soon refuse probably.

Is there any damage to your car?
Do you really think he is bothered, i would tell your insurance company just in case.
