I am originally from CA and moved to TX of junior year of highschool. I am planning to attend community college back in CA for 2 years (as an out-of-state resident) without my parent's financial support. I am only 18 years old and I am planning to live on my own. Is there any way I can receive MORE financial aid?

Proabably not as a Dependent student.

In order to be classifed as Independent, and thus not having to submit your parental information, you need to be able to answer "Yes" to one of the following questions that is asked on the FAFSA:

were you born before 1/1/1984
are you a graduate or professional student
are you married
do you have children you support
do you have legal dependents
are you an orphan or ward of the court
are you active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

If you cannot answer "Yes" to any of these questions, then you will be classifed as a Dependent and need to provide your parent's income information, whether or not you are living with them or they are supporting you.

You can appeal that status, but it will most likely be denied. Most schools will do a Dependency Override in extreme circumstances - such as if a parent is institutionalized or incarcerated for example.

You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information/guidance.

Good luck!

It is possibe, but not likely. Check with the financial aid office at the college you plan to attend.

There are exceptions, but most 18 year olds are considered dependent students unless they are military veterans, married, or supporting children. In some instances, however, they may be judged to be independent.

As bad as this may sound, if you can "divorce" your parents or get them to agree to "disown" you (its just a series of paperwork signing really) Then when you fill out the financial aid forms for your school of choice, you will be your own dependent, source of income, etc and if you have a job, we can assume is minimum wage and if you don't, even better. This means you minimal or no source of income and need the most help, the government will then offer more loans and grants to you. Yes, you are able to do this when you are 18 (being disowned/divorcing your parents), so long as you are a dependent of them.

You can also fill out for as many scholarships as possible, I would try www.fastwebs.com they have excellent service and can help you find local jobs :)

Probably not. Contact the financial aid office of a local college and ask.
