Ideas like the "big bang" etc they dismiss and give some drivle about the almightly. bare in mind that the people who wrote the bible were ignorant off most science, so wouldn't have been able to formulate theories about the big band, evolution etc.
So why now that we have a greater understanding can religion types not look to merge these ideas?
(sorry to the rational open people out there for any generalisations)

I'm not trying to discredit anyone here, just pointing out that even the most educated person from 2000 years ago would not have the same in depth knowledge about aspects of how things work as someone of an equivilent educatory background.

In the Bahá'í Faith, we believ in the unity of science and religion. Science without religion is mere materialism, and religion without science is mere superstition, wives tales. We believe that religion MUST CONFORM TO SCIENCE. If not, it's just superstition, empty.

We are definitely theists who believe in education of everyone, from the cradle to the grave. That means to never ever shun scientific knowledge and discoveries, but to seek and embrace them.

I beg to differ with you, but alot of the men that wrote the various parts of the bible were highly educated. The author of Luke was a doctor and a historian. If we would stop attacking the people who wrote the bible with our futile attempts to discredit them, and maybe attain an understanding of the people and places we would be better off. but because we don't understand or, are insufficient in and of ourselves we try to discredit others. If now, we have a greater understandin as you claim, we would find that this so called "drivle" about the bible is actually correct and alot of it has been backed by this very science you talk about

Good scientists try to separate science from religion. Science gives statistical answers such as "the chances of your winning the lottery is" while theists go further and say that the actual winner is God's decision. The two views do not conflict.

Science ought never to speak about purpose. Neither "what is the purpose of our lives?" nor "what is the purpose of a rose?" are scientific questions.

As a Christian, I don't hold that the Bible is a science textbook. If science says that the universe is 8 billion years old, I will accept it. What the Bible tells me is why the universe was created, a question science cannot answer.

No, they didn't have Big Bands in those days I suppose, at least, not electrical amplified ;)
The problem is that their holy books tells stories that are totally contradicted by scientific findings. Fundamentalist try to interpret the bible literally, so they can't accept the scientific findings (accept for that the earth is not flat). Nowadays they're trying to make up their own "science", with what they try to tackle regular science, thus proving their texts right (as if regular science would be flawed, which is not, this would mean that god is proved, which is also not.
If the means are flawed and manipulative, than the goals of the manipulator are not to be trusted.

Very long without a real question to it but I understand where you are coming from. Basically that people have forgotten the purpose of their religions and started making up details and believing those were God's laws passed down. They forgot the big picture and it's the simplicity of who God is and his purpose for us.

Bible believing Christians do not reject true science - however we reject particular aspects found in 'modern science' which is bias against the Christian worldview.

The theory of the Big Bang, evolution, and abiogenesis are based on 'modern science' which excludes by definition the supernatural from ever being an answer. IMO this is ignorance at its best.

Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

I don't ever dismiss anything. -- and I'm sure that Job, Ezekiel, and Isaiah would have loved Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Jimmie Lunceford and all the big band greats as well.

So now that we have a greater understanding of big bands in relation to atheists I do hope that your rational sensibilities will shut up and groove to the vibes in perfect synch.

you are right a bunch of ignorant dessert dwellers got to gether and concocted some weird theories and expect the world to accept there religions as truth, should we follow Israel one of the smalles countries in the world, and live in the past.?

god created the earth and the sun, that fine for dessert Aborigines, but now that we know about billions of other galaxies, we should dump the old dessert religion and live in 2007.

Because science is completely at odds with their version of the history of the universe and how it works. And their rather warped moral values have to be underpinned by their world view or they will be seen for what they are.

The problem for them is, of course, that science can readily be verified to be true. Indeed, it underpins the very computer you are typing at - if that computer obeyed the religious version of the laws of the universe it would just not work.

Muslims believe the Qur'aan is a revelation, It was not authored by a human or Angel. The big bang is against what was revealed to us by God.

it will never become a fact even in science.
