Background info. - cousin - 14/female/Canada.
Recently my cousin came to stay with us in Sheffield for the summer. 7 days ago, a few of us went to London for a short trip, including me and my cousin. We spent quite a lot of time outside. We returned to Sheffield 2 days later and about a day after that my cousin fell ill. She has been feeling ill ever since (past 4 days or so).
Her symptoms:
Her first symptom was a fever. The fever tends to vary in severity - rises and goes down daily. She has reddish pimples over her head, face, neck and stomach. Also, they are purulent (contain pus). It feels quite sticky and itchy over the areas with pimples. She has swollen glands behind her ears. She experiences some pain when she swallows. She has loss of appetite. It hurts when breathing. She has pain in her right side of her body, especially in hips, but this is probably due to her sleeping position. She has only taken Tylenol for her symptoms (it's like paracetamol).
What's happening?

It could be chicken pox as this forms pus filled red lumps and is very itchy but of course it could also be another another virus, paracetamol will help the fever and the pain, but ring your GP and ask if they can take a temporary patient that is not a UK resident - they might not but ask anyway, if they can you need to go and collect a short form, fill it in and return it to get an appointment for your cousin.
Alternatively, take her to A&E (take her guardian too if you can) and the Drs there will diagnose.
You could also ring NHS direct on 0845 46 47 (that number is correct, it's just very short)

Depending on the severity of the fever, it may not be that serious, but if it's going over 102degF, then take her to a doctor. It's very important that she get lots of fluids and juices - extremely important! dehydration is what kills people for most serious fevers.
A fever lasting 4 days is serious, and she should see a doctor. She could have measles, chicken pox, or any number of other things.

I think your old folks took her to the hospital and you are here trying to figure out what happened!
Well, it looks more like a viral infection. I would like to search for a septic focus like one in the throat, but as she has lymph nodes enlargement elsewhere (behind her ears), it seems the tonsils are involved as part of generalized lymphadenopathy. She will need symptomatic (paracetamol) and supportive (I/V fluids) treatment till results of investigations are available. Then may be some antibiotics including antiviral.
All the best for your cousin!

She sounds like a right mess alright! : (
It could be measles or chickenpox. Whatever it is, make sure it's not contagious. Some childhood diseases can cause blindness or deafness in severe cases.
Chicken pox can even re-emerge as shingles when a person who has had Chicken Pox as a child, gets older.
Good luck and get her checked out by a medical professional!

If shes that bad take her to the doctors! She can get treatment on her travel insurance. It copuld be a few things but chicken pox sounds likely with the pus filled pimples.

She absolutely needs to see a doctor.
She could have been exposed to measels or chicken pox.
Or she could be having a severe food allergy - but I am guessing measles or chicken pox.
You need to get her into the doctor right away.

Take her to see a doctor NOW. Don't take medical advice off Yahoo Answers, you don't know who is giving it, and it could make her symptoms worse. Sign off the computer, call your local GP, then drive her there (or catch a cab.) Good luck.

she may have shingles... look it up on the internet. If so, she will need antibiotics. It needs treating straight away as it could turn serious if it is left. Take her to a doctors or A&E.

Well you should probably take her to the hospital! but it could be Strep throat. Her symptoms sound just like what my roomate's son had and he tested positive for strep.

it could be many different things, and it is not safe to ask for a diagnosis on here. You need to take her to the GP or family doctor today.
