Get down to her level, you don't want all your photos looking down at her. Inside, try to put her near a window and turn off the flash for natural light. Or cover the flash with a tissue to soften it. If you have an external flash unit, learn how to bounce flash.

Take natural light closeups of her hands and feet, ears and toes etc etc. Put her in an old washtub with a rubber duckie.

Take super close shots of her face, lips, nose, eyelashes. Use natural light and the little flower icon on your program menu for macro. Convert them to b&w.

Shoot her playing with her favorite toy or gentle puppy or dog. (or declawed cat, I'd hate for the baby to get a scratch!)

I have never been a fan of draping a sheet on the wall for a fake studio type of look. Unless you are almost pro to begin with, it always looks like a sheet on the wall, and it requires way more attention to lighting in order to control shadows than an environmental portrait. If you want a studio portrait, then take her to a studio (my opinion :-) ) But, if you have a big fluffy rug, you can use it for a prop for the naked baby shots.

Outdoors in open shade is a great option. Try to find shade that is not dappled. You may find you need to adjust your white balance to the cloud icon, otherwise your images may be blue.

Just shoot lots and frequently. No one looks back and says they took too many pictures. I agree with whoever said have prints made, as well as backing up to a good cd or dvd. Have fun!

If you are doing baby shots you need 2 people / adults or more. The first person would be the photographer and the second (and third) would be the baby wrangler.

If the baby can sit by herself then you can probably just prop her up and don't need a third person stooped low to hold her up. If not them you will need to get a bed sheet and thumb tack it or staple it to the wall. Then the third person can be BEHIND the bedsheets and hold the baby by her bottom and sides.

The second person would be the real baby wrangler. She / he would be responsible for exciting the baby and getting her to look and smile. Have one her (baby) favorite toy, preferably the kind that rattles or makes noise ready. When everything is ready, have the photographer ready to shoot and then all of a sudden flip out the toy and get the baby's attention. The baby will be fixate for short while on the toy.

The photographer's job would be to ready and trigger the shutter the moment the baby smiles and laughs.

===
If the third person is too much to ask for, then put the baby on the floor with the bedsheets as backdrop (stapled to the wall). Then surround the baby with all of her stuff toys. The idea is to have her (baby) be part of the toys. Lay the baby on her stomach or her back again the toys. Give her something like sunglasses to hold onto. And now again have the baby wrangler do her / his stuff and the photographer do her / his stuff.

===
Another thing is to go outside in the garden (shade). Just the natural background (shoot down at 20 to 45 degree to isolate the background). Use long lens (or zoom setting) to isolate the background.

You can sit the baby in a baby swing. This is easy to setup but the job of the wrangler and the photographer is always the same.
====
When you are done make sure that you print them out ON PAPER. You will be surprised at how many people ask "my CD / hard disk crashed and all my baby's pictures are gone - what can I do?" Go get it printed on real photographic paper (not at home / ink jet printer). Most home printers use dye ink and they only last 1 to 2 years max (atmospheric fading).

Good Luck.

Try and capture a special moment,
like when she's sitting on playing with a toy.

I have a 6 month old neise that lives with me
and boy, it's so adorable to watch them learn to
sit and crawl.

When taking the picture,
consider the angle and the background.
Make sure it's not too close and not too far way..
so that the picture shows the baby and where she's at..

just experiment.

The best pictures are from the moments that wont happen agian.

Hi!
When my little girl was in her few months of age, I use to take photos of her and her Daddy in the shower. Just him holding her against his chest. I took them with a basic 35mm camera and black and white film. With digital cameras and imaging editing programs you can change the colours etc all by yourself. Also had shots of myself in shower with daughter under shower with me- water trinkling on our faces. Totally amateur photography but bloody good shots. Very sentimental to me!
Have fun!

it might help in case you indexed the place you reside. in simple terms approximately all casting calls are by companies, not open calls, and you will desire to stay in a city that has an company that has a teenagers branch. maximum shoots are shot in NYC and l. a. and to a lesser quantity Chicago and Miami.

Maybe try laying her on her back on a pretty blanket...try and get her to kick her feet in the air, and take the photo from above...that would be cute! :)

DISTRACTION SEEMS TO BE KEY WITH THE VERY LITTLE ONES. GET HIS/HER FAVORITE TOY TO PLAY WITH. SITTING STILL CAN BE IMPOSSIBLE WHEN YOU JUST LEARNED HOW. CRAWLING POSITION IS GOOD NO RISK THERE.
