I mean Buddhism was well established when JC came along. Alot of people on this site think that Buddhists are more Christ-like than Christians (Yesterdays R+S).
So was Jesus a Dharma practitioner?

Well, that's hard to say. I mean, you're talking about a character from a fictional book.

I think Jesus was himself..Although Buddhism pre-dates Jesus..He was Influenced primarily by Old Testament Teachings/scripture ( from about 8,000years BC) and Jewish law/custom... more than any other external believe system he may have experienced. If in the unlikely event, Jesus spent time with Buddhist..I'm sure the experience would of been mutual rather than dominant!.What is intriguing however, is that his 'way of being', humanity and spirituality, resonates with many belief systems, not just Buddhism. The bottom line is this 'unconditional love' Jesus tried to model and live out.. Christians have had trouble following that..so too have all the other religions and belief systems.

There are 17 years of Jesus' life that are missing from the bible. And it has been said that Jesus did spend some time in Buddhist teachings. I haven't found that in my studies as yet, but I am more or less a new Buddhist. My dharma teacher says yes, Jesus did spend some time in Buddhism, and there are some similarities of Buddhism in Christianity.

This what a lot of people think because there is a large gap within the Bible stories of his teenage years. Buddhism existed way before the Old Testament even existed so it can be a plausible idea. Additional details- People wondered what happened during this large gap within the story and they came up with the idea that Jesus might have went to a foreign place to learn about the concepts of Buddhism. Otherwise, how would he have made religion out of the blue when his childhood stories do not have any signs of him having interest in having apostles or teaching mass amounts of people. I'm going to get thumbs down D:

He was Jewish but if he'd heard about Buddha then he probably agreed with a lot of what he said, especially as he practised what he thought which is a lot better than the Jews at the time that he argued with. Same as Christians today can probably learn a lot from Buddhists (and other religions), I'm sure Jesus would have respected the teaching of Buddha in those times.

At the edges, all the religions are different. Sometimes these religious factions even try to kill each other.
At the centre, they are all exactly the same. (But sshhhh! don't tell them, they get terribly upset).
It's not whether or not Christ was a BuddhIST, but how far he was along the path to being a Buddha. And who am I to deny the possibility of his complete enlightenment?

EDIT,
Ah the poetry of Magnolia Flower and the wiliness of that old coyote.
Truth in whatever flavour you want it!

It is said to be said in a several centuries old document in a Buddist Monastry in India that a 14 year old boy called Isa came there and left at the age of 29.

Here a link into the video that discuss this finding.

I am not sure. but I think it is possible that Jesus was buddhist monk, so his teaching was very different from some of Jewish 's teaching. You can see "the father" of Jesus look like Buddha than yaweh of the Jewish and when Jesus say "every one can be a son of god",it may be mean that every one can ordained to be a monk and be a dharma practitioner one.

No. There is theories that Buddhism may have influenced the writings of the New Testament. But Jesus all in all, I think we can safely assume he was a Jew.

Hey u are all confused, JESUS did not copy the teaching of Buddha. But u know that he lead such a ideal life that after HIM many tried to follow HIM, and some who could not reconcile with such greatness of GOD they started a reseaerch work to blame HIM. May those who are finding new things about HIM understand that HE is GOD and HE must be respected as GOD. HE is still the matter of disscussion speaks of the volume of HIS power and greatness. What do u all think!
