Who cares. I agree. My brother works in A and E and they have seen double the amount of people they saw last year due to alcohol. Most of the anti social behaviour stems from alcohol. Put all the prices up for it I say!

The pubs are going to be empty come winter anyway, because of the smoke ban. Charging £7 for a pint of beer will not stop people drinking. It will just make it more expensive and lead to endless problems of poverty in the family.
Police Chiefs should just keep their oar out of politics and get on with the business of catching criminals.
It was the joined up capital letter crayon writing of the police chiefs here in UK who got the 24 hour drinking business started in the first place.
Their silly notion was that people would not all pour out on to the street at the same time, thus there would be fewer punch-ups. What a load of crap. If a pub closes at 11pm or 2am it makes no difference. When the pub closes, everyone goes out onto the street, mob handed and fired up.
Stupid prats.
Price hikes are already happening in pubs and restaurants here in London due to the smoke ban. Many pubs are down 25% on their takings. People who smoke are not going to the pub, they're buying booze at the offie, taking it home, watching football, smoking and drinking there. Cannot blame them.
Result, where a cocktail formerlly cost £5 in a bar I know, it now costs £7.50. This happened within one week of the smoke ban.

Police Chiefs can afford £7 per pint.... I can't!
On a serious note I remember when they said that de- restricting licencing hours would ease the problems caused by binge drinkers. Well I'm sorry to say that it clearly hasn't worked. Figures from the NHS also seem to back this up. Needless to say raising the prices will also not work.

I must be getting old when I started drinking the cheapest pint was 55p for mild, 60p for bitter and about 65p for lager.
It used to be about half the price in most social clubs like police or British legion. At that rate £7 a pint we should have a wonderful NHS and all drinkers should have a priority card as they would have paid for it, smokers as well lol.
The government secretly wants us all to keep drinking, smoking and driving otherwise the NHS goes down the pan.

Its just another ploy to squeeze more money out of the working class
My husband works 12 hour shifts all week he works hard and he`s entitled to enjoy a pint at the end of a long day .
It wont stop people drinking , it will just lead to more crime just like the drug related crimes
I bet it wont be £ 7 a pint in the police clubs

OK - excessive drinking is a problem, but this is a totally daft solution. The government needs to rethink its legislation on drinking hours, and also to tighten up on law and order - ie scoop the drunks up and stick them in the cells. It's quite irrational to penalise sensible drinkers for the stupidity of a few.
The police, of course, will be an exception (as they seem to be for most legislation...) and so their beer will be £1.50.
If beer goes up to £7 a pint, I'm off to France!

About half the price it is. yet another toady sucking up to the government for extra taxes. I drink I do not get drunk and go arounf hitting people so why should i have to pay for the chaos caused bt those who do. Heavy fines is the answer and gaol if theyt don't pay but it will nor write off the fine give a little more time to pay and if they are involved in more trouble of any sort increase the time in the slammer and stil have them pay the fine

They should be £35 per pint, which is the about the price of a flight to Alicante. Yobs will then find it cheaper to fly there and drink their hearts out. We then can export our lawlessness and destruction.

The ingredients to produce a pint of beer cost pennies, so we'll all make our own.
