I strongly suggest finding a good place that does piercing, that's clean, uses sterile equipment and whatnot, and ask them these questions. Calling up a place might be quicker than waiting for someone to give a good answer *glares at the first two answers.*
My friend has a tragus piercing, she told me it hurt like hell, that she was swearing like mad once it was pierced. But if it's cartelidge, just like the top of the ear, I'm not 100%, but I don't think it'll close completely. Just like with lobe piercings, if you've had them for a long, LONG time, I don't think the hole closes much, if at all, vs a newer, fresher piercing which can close faster. That is from my own experience, I got my ears pierced at age 2 or 3, and got more done 10 years later. The original two, I can leave without an earring for AGES, and it doesn't close, just shrinks a bit, but the other ones, I have to have an earring in there.
As for any possible scarring, you really need to think if you want the piercing. As always, you need to find out all you can about this. Here are some sites I found in a quick google search [in the sources box.] I do strongly recommend calling a place tomorrow afternoon.

i have mine done and it's on my right ear. that's only because i've got my upper helix on my left ear, and i'm getting my daith on my left as well. i am not sure if you get a nasty scar since i have not taken mine out, but it's just thick cartilage so it shouldn't close right away. i've changed my jewelry a few times and have no problems with it.
