How about a nice greeting card, with a gift card inside from your favorite restaurant, and you can go out to eat together. You can alert the staff, ahead of time, it is his birthday, and they will bring him a piece of cake and sing "Happy Birthday" to him. Then you could give him a little gift at the restaurant, such as latest CD by his favorite band, or one you created just for him on computer from your own CD's. You could play it in the car on way home from restaurant.

Before you pop up at his house make sure you call his parents or something to let them know your coming. HE doesn't have to know, but they have to make sure he doesn't make plans with the dudes or family. Right? anyway, special night! Making food is always awesome. A candlelight dinner, or go outside if it is nice out. Make or bring his favorite dessert with candles. Watch a movie or lay down on a blanket outside and look up at the stars. Holding each other would probably be a part of the night due to the fact that you're so far away from each other all of the time. Those are classics for a nice birthday/romantic night.

It would help knowing his interests. If its sports, get him something related to that. Video games, get a game he doesn't have from his favorite genre. This isn't trying to be a perv but, if you 2 are already sexually active, buy some nice lingerie and surprise him in the bedroom. It just really depends on the guy and his interests. The last one any guy would like but that truly depends on if you're active or not.

Well, you sound like a sweet girlfriend to put so much thought into a gift...first get him something he would like...like jeans, shoes, games etc...then get him something from your heart like a sheet set for his bed and take the pillow cases to have something embroidered on them like "XOXO, goodnight my love, I love you," or something silly that the two of you always say to one another. If you have a nick name for him you could have that put on there. Give him something from your heart. Guys like things that girls give from the heart. Good Luck

I discussed with my ex-bf what kind of jeans he liked and bought him some jeans. They also like shirts or sneakers. You didn't say how much was your budget. They also like CD's.
