I've been watching that Man Vs Wild show on the Discovery channel, and no matter what this man encounters, he seems to find some plant, animal, rock, or body of water to relieve his ailments. I can't help but to wonder if God truly intended us to live off of the earth alone, and if all this technology is just clouding our minds. Most people these days don't even know how to camp let alone survive in the wild. What were God's true intentions for us? (No bible quotes, please. I'm not Christian, and I won't even read them)

Hey Jenn
Believe it or not, there IS more than the one God. "GOD" by definition does not mean Jesus, Buddah, Mr. Ed, or any other schmo that holds a candle to your flame.

" God's True Intentions?" Not being a religionists, you seem to be in that; old dude in the sky type headset?
Funny; I just told an ex' I was going to give her a fancy sleeping bag , that was given to me, because I got no intentions of using it. She's from Tennessee, and she's with all that.
look at it this way: everything that is, is a combination of, or derived from a natural source. The 'man and the wild' thing -to me-a nyc boy- is like that McGyver dude, working with the available amenities?-lol were meant to live and grow... period.

If you look at humans in the context of our adaptations, you'll notice 2 things:
1) We have no defensive attributes (ex. claws, spikes, hard skin, large teeth, etc.)
2) We have massively developed brains.
We evolved to create tools for our own use because we lack the ability to defend ourselves. Technology doesn't cloud our minds; it's what makes us superior, in terms of natural selection.
Even on Man Vs. Wild, he has a support crew ready to jump in and save him, should anything go wrong.
If we were left alone in the wilderness, we could find little plants to eat, and hunt small animals, and find clever ways to obtain water, but we could also be K.Oed by something as small as a venemous snake. And if something of similar size to us attacked for some reason, there's no way at all the human would win without tools of some sort. We are defenseless without our technology.
According to the Christian God, we did not evolve. Rather we were placed here with the purpose of being the paramount species on Earth- we did not earn our way to the top, as the theory of Evolution says.
The majority of western hemisphere people do not know how to camp because technology has evolved instead of the human body, so that we no longer need to know how to camp. Poorer countries may not have a PC and 3 televisions in every home, or even indoor plumbing, but they still have tools. They still practice agriculture. These are still technology, just not as advnced.

We live life in the t.v.. The world is not what it use to be and it is harder to find seclusion except in the magic box known as the t.v. .I do not think half of the people here know how to make drinking water from the ocean. Or how to start a fire with out the use of matches. God gave man the knowledge it is how one choose to use it that makes the difference.
God may just want us to live in peace with one another and respect mother nature in a whole. Stop the pollution of ones mind and body and of the earth.

If one is trained to live that way, then yes nature is all we need. I bought all three seasons of Kung Fu and David Carridines character Kwia Chang Cain eats no meat and can find food or medicine anywhere in the wilderness or desert. That is fiction, but people with skills like that do exist, but it is not me.

We are suppose to use every natural resource we can. Technology and natural resources are a good combination.
I won't quote it but the Bible does deal with the priorities of nature.
Good question.

Plants, animals of all definitions and human beings all co-exist on this planet. We all live off of the planet---from the food we eat to the air we breathe. --Did God intend this? I would guess so---since He put us here----After all, what else would we live on?----Blessings!

No, but not because of anything related to nature. You nearly answer your own question by the correlation of nature with necessity. "All this technology" is a phenomenon of the will as it attempts to master nature. Complete mastery of nature is at odds with the dynamism the will takes pleasure in. Man isn't satisfied with nature, per se, he wants it to be "better than it was before"...he wants the perfection of nature "as visited by man", somehow seeing himself outside of nature, un-natural, capable of augmenting.

I don't know. I think i would prefer to live that way, and it is obviously quite possible. Our current path seems to be upsetting the ecosystem of the planet. That is pretty much bad, end of story. I think we need to find balance.

I love the show too.
Camping was never like that when I was in scouting.
I need to go to shows, go dancing, play music, enjoy fine dining, and meet people, and work.
We need learning though, mostly we need society and also learning.
