look, i understand everyone has their own opinion about everything. tell me though why all you lame people actually take time out of your busy, perfect lives and put others down? if you're trying to give your advice, fine. do it with good intentions but when you just answer someones question for the sole purpose of being an AS*, dont bother! keep it to yourself. better yet, look at yourself in the mirror and ask-, "why am i unhappy with myself and why is it i feel better when i put others down?" when you come up with the truth about why you are so insensative- maybe you'll take some time to work on your own problems and quit bitching at others.

There are rude people everywhere, but online you'll find even more because a lot of people who wouldn't dare being so rude in person feel all strong and confident when they can be anonymous.

However, the best thing to do is to ignore them. While of course a few of the rude people are just people who feel very strongly about a certain topic and can't contain themselves, most of these rude folks are bullies. Bullies aren't rude because they care that much about the issue they're talking about, but they thrive on the reactions they get! Any time someone responds to them, either in a later answer or by posting a question like yours, they love it, that's exactly what they want. Either ignore them or just hit the 'report' flag without posting any response for everyone to see, and leave it at that. If no one would react to their flaming, they'd get bored and find something else to do, unfortunately on a large board like this there will always be some who will respond...

First off, a lot of us who hang out here answering questions all day don't have busy lives, or we'd be at our jobs contributing to society instead of goofing off on line. You check the history of a lot of those people who consistently have deliberately obnoxious answers, and they are typically answering 50 or 60 (or more) questions a day. I put about 10 minutes at least into most of my answers, so I can seldom get more than 5 or 6 in a day.

I, for one, think that the rudest thing that people do is give advice that has nothing to do with the question. If I am asking what kind of beer I should serve at my high school graduation party (Tangent--I've been out of high school for several years, and I do not drink) I want names of beers, not reasons why I should not be drinking or giving alcohol to other under-aged kids. I know that I'm not supposed to drink until 21.

But there are always people out there who are going to flaunt their ignorance, incompetence, and insensitivity. Just laugh at them. Or report them to questions as abusers--they might get kicked off for a day, and then they'll have time to go fill out job applications!

Before I had my education, one of my earlier jobs was grading emails that customer service reps sent to corporate cable customers. I noticed that a big problem we encountered was that some times the 'tone' of the reps email came off a little sour. When I would talk the them about what was being said, their vocal inflection was pleasant and courteous - but puntiation, capitalization, or language made the response seem curt or crass. I think most people are here to help; it's just hard for them to deliver their responses in a courteouse fashion. When that happens opions ,which are all unique and we all have rights to, often come off sounding like commands.

I've learned on message boards just to scan for the data I need and omit the moody text.

Happy Message Boarding!

Take care,
Saul

Because they can! People hide behind the anonymity of the keyboard and feel they can be rude, insulting, or downright crude, and you can do nothing about it. You don't know who they are, or where they live. If someone gets too vulgar or racist I have no problem reporting them. I have no problem being sarcastic to the truly ignorant questions from people who really should know better, though. The ones that are just idiots can have their little fun, and they will never know in what contempt I hold them. Just keep on keeping on, and don't let it get you down, my friend.

I admit I am sarcastic with people who are just plain dumb. I also try to give the best advice I can to people who have a valid question.

I agree. The whole point of having advice is great, but we should try to want to bring people up! But you get those type of people so theres really nothing we can do.

Most of the people who do that are bored kids. Just ignore them.
