The Mormon church has stated on several occasions that there is not a shred of evidence to support the truth of the church.

Most people, including people on here, reference the works of Jeff Lindsay as proof of the church.

Does this mean that Jeff Lindsay is a more reliable source than the church itself?

Before anyone calls me on this, I should say that it's Lindsay, not Lindsey. Please don't use that to skirt the issue at hand.

I don't think this was ever intended, but Jeff has sort of set himself up as an 'expert' reference by those who either cannot explain contradictions, or will not attempt to do it themselves. While Jeff is bright, he's also just 'towing the party line', and if the church turns around and changes their doctrine, down comes his webpage as he makes revisions to suit Salt Lake.

In any case, apologists and church officials seldom see eye to eye on explanations. How many times has the church's South American/Polynesian temple dedicatory speeches implied that ALL of the locals are descended from "Father Lehi"?

I don't reference Jeff Lindsay, just for personal preference. I go to W. Cleon Skousen, Hugh Nibley, apostles when possible, prophets as well when possible from the Old Testament and New Testament, and Jewish references when possible. Having grown up with my parents associating and working with Cleon Skousen, that is my preference. I trust people who have spent nearly their entire lives studying the scriptures and doing their best to obey God's laws. Whether they are Church members or not, I trust people with integrity, having learned enough of the opposite from others. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear to think sweeter thoughts.

I don't reference Jeff as proof, but to counter your disproof, if you will. There is no proof that will suffice the naysayers. Only the Spirit of God can testify the proof of it to you. However, there are a ton of conincendences and it makes a whole lot of common sense if you take the time to study it out.

I don't think that the leaders of the church have the time to go around looking for evidence. But, are you sure that's what they said? Maybe they said there's no PROOF? There's a difference. There is evidence, but there is no proof.
