Hi there...skin disorders can be caused by many factors that are not necessarily caused by cats who are exposed to the outdoor life. Allergies to food, products around the home, parasites common to cats, hormonal imbalances, genetic defects, feline diseases...and so many more can contribute to the feline skin disorders. There isn't one particular cause. Your veterinarian is the best person to direct your question since they diagnosed and treated your cat. They can offer recommendations as to how to prevent future recurrences of the skin disorder.
