I have an 8 month old black Miniature Schnauzer and she pulls so hard when I walk her that I don't want to walk her anymore. I've gotten her a headcollar and that seems to help but she doesn't like it and tries to paw it off. We will enroll both our dogs in obedience classes but because of vacation we are going to do it after. Any suggestions would be great!

It's just a matter of helping her understand what you want her to do. Here's a site on training to heel.

Do the puppy classes, but keep the headcollar, too. My dog is 7 yrs. old and doesn't like hers one bit, but it keeps her from pulling. The dogs get used to wearing it after a while, but she'll probably still paw at it when it's left on her head & she's not walking. My dog will rub her face on the ground after a walk (when I'm trying to remove the headcollar). I call it "schnovelling". She'd rather walk without it, but I won't do it. She'd pull me down the street!

first invest in a choke collar, than read the monks of new skete, how to be your dogs best friend. They really do have the best advise on dogs who pull on leads. to sum it up, stop each time he pulls, make him sit, then turn around a 180 so that when you start walking, you are in front like the leader that you should be. It's not easy, but it works if you keep at it. I've had two schnauzers, and yes, they are stubborn, but they are also quick studies. good luck..

"Gentle lead" It s a front leading harness. Basically its a regular harness that hooks up in front. But when the dog pulls real hard, it make the dog turn around facing you. You can find them at Petco.

I'd stick with the Halti.. my dog hated it at first too.. but it's the best. My dog needed it for about 2 years and we switched to a Martingale collar which half collar, half choke chain.
A dogs power is in it's shoulders.. so if you use the Halti he can't pull because it doesn't have any power in it's face/snout.

My part schnauzer does this also, I just want to give up, I think you have to really work with schnauzer's . they are a very stubborn dog. they have harness collars that fits on their chest . that will keep them from pulling to much. you have more control over them with this type of harness.I wish you the best of luck with your dog.

go to a park and and walk back and forth every time they pull jerk on the leash and walk the opposite direction or just stop walking until they come to your side and calm down
