Katrina left Mississippians and Louisannans homeless and more than half are still without shelter and displaced. On the other hand, millions come into the country and our government caters to their needs. "Houston, we have a problem!"

The government doesn't exactly cater to illegals' needs.

Groups like La Raza and the Catholic church do however by providing for them and helping them manipulate the system.

This nation, as I did, jumped into action to donate money and goods to help the people in New Orleans after Katrina. It was a terrible situation. However, we found out later that our money was misused by the so-called "victims" and they committed crimes wherever they were sent. It's the classic case of government dependence. Instead of depending on themselves, they waited for the govt to help them. And to think people are still displaced this long after the storm is ridiculous. They need to get out and get jobs and start being responsible Americans. The first settlers into this great country set up entire towns faster than these Katrina rejects who are still waiting for the government to provide them housing and money.

You are not going to believe this but...the illegals are who are helping to rebuild those states after the hurricane. When you go there, the illegals are cleaning, working and doing the dirty job, meanwhile your "victims" are here in Houston causing problems and the crime rate went up the 34%. To the point that even in the stores, (I mean inside) they assaulted my friend at gunpoint. At least the illegals come to work. And don't take me wrong, I am against illegal immigration, I firmly believe in respecting and to abide the law.

Of course, it is hypocritical and detrimental to our citizens.
The delayed response to Katrina initially was inexcusable.
Poverty, homelessness, citizens without access to affordable health care. Yet, illegal aliens are given free health care, benefits for anchor babies. The government is failing it's purpose, to provide for the security and well-being of citizens, first and always.

BTW...La Raza receives federal grants. They use that money to benefit illegal aliens. They have used grants to fund over 50 charter schools in CA alone that teach assimilation is wrong. That is abuse of tax-dollars better spent on citizens.

I'm so tired of people whining about Katrina. It was a horrible disaster. We're only humans. We're no match for a storm of that magnitude. You expected someone to take a magic wand and millions of houses magically pop up???

no, those immigrants will actually help the united states build those houses back, while the katrina "victims" came to houston, 6 months later crime rose 21% (i live in houston) most of the people from lousiana were 5th generation welfare and basically a huge burdern on us the taxpayers than the immigrants will ever be, they want to work and make a better life for themselves, "victims" want an easy lazy way out, sorry to tell the truth, people have been making illegal immigrants out to be a bigger problem than the really are

i dont see the problem most illegals i know got their own place, because they pay rent, most of the things they have , they paid cash for it.

i used to sell cars so here is the rule, IF YOU GOT THE MONEY YOU CAN GET ANYTHING YOU WANT.

I missed the part where billions of tax dollars didn't go to Katrina victims who decided to live in Hurricane alley. Perhaps you can help me not remember that. You are, however, correct in your other point.

Well many of the 'displaced' left with no intention of returning.

However I agree that citizens should be the priority. Illegals shouldn't be housed at taxpayer expense at all.
