I was in mexico and the cops harrassed me.. surprise surprise.. first I was detained for being on an illegal street.. I demanded the consulate and they "let me go".. then a half hour later I was talking to some hooker on the side of street (you walk by and they grab at you).. So I leave and get half way down the street when some mexican cop slams me and a friend against the wall. he convieniently pulls the hookers wallet out of my pocket.. with like 5 dollars in it.. then handcuffs me and a friend and drags us throught the streets to jail.. The cop is banging his baton on the walls ect.. to intimidate us.. they steal 40 out of my friends wallet and 60 out of mine. then tell me the hooker has 100 and 2500 pesons stolen (even though I had no pesos on me) Then it becomes 200 then 1000 dollars. (because I had things to do stateside) I eventually had to hand the cop a bribe through the jail cell of $60 (he said .. it was for the hooker to make her whole) wait for more..

Not much you can do. Not only are the cops down there crooked, it gets deeper then that. Many police chiefs are crooked, many federal cops etc. Best thing you can do is leave it alone. Complaining will only get you in worse trouble. You are not the only one, lots of people, weather their american, mexican, or any other race will run into cop's like this. The reasons mexicans won't go through all that is they already know its better to pay them up front and walk off then to get taken to jail and get all your belongings stolen. You are lucky they only took your money. Many walk out without shoes, jewlery, if you are driving a car they will take your car stereo, etc.

I just keep hearing more and more stories like that. Tijuana used to be a nice little tourist town when I was a kid for the most part anyway.
You would have girls selling flowers, kids selling miscellaneous stuff running up to you, there were lots of small businesses and it was relatively clean.
Its really too bad.

Sorry, but your not gonna get your money back :( A lot of the police in Mexico are corrupted....I wouldn't doubt that they were in on that whole hooker thing.

There is no chance of you getting your money back. They have put out warnings to stay out of Mexico if you are from the US don't you watch the news?
