My five-year-old starts kindergarten next month. In the registration materials, there is a code of conduct.

Any child under the age of six years old who commits murder, attempted murder, aggrevated assault, sexual assault including molestation, or any other felony charge will not immediately be removed from the classroom. This is actually according to State law.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know reasonably, there is next to no chance that would happen, but seeing it written out like that just freaked me out.

I've decided not to let him grow up and go to elementary school.

:-(

BTW: I wouldn't really keep him from it, but oh my gosh I'm freaking out.

The code of conduct is for the whole school district.

I mean, I understand the logic behind it, it's like having to sign a form saying you understand anesthesia used to pull a wisdom tooth could kill you.

Totally not likely to happen.

Not much of a comfort, though. That they even have to address that (not only the school, but the state) sends shivers up my spine.

My best friend is a school psychologist. She said that that has to be included because legally, a child under the age of six can't be held accountable for what he or she does. Having that in the code of conduct is basically to make sure that IF something like that happened, the main thing most parents would want is to have something done with the kid, and would be ticked off when this baby criminal had no consequences for his or her actions.

I still don't feel okay about it, but whatever.

As HORRIFYING as that is... it is just in there because of the law that says children under 6 years old can't be held legally responsible for things like murder.

Good luck with school I'm sure everything will be fine!

wow. i agree. that is crazy. i mean, i am 14 and not going to be a mother for a long time but that is crazy. for a kindergarten or preschool code of conduct, that shouldn't even be in there until they are at least 8 or so. i don't think a five year old is capable of murder, attempted murder, assault in any way or any other felony charge. i agree. i would be freaking out if i saw that on a code of conduct for kindergarten.

Just seeing something like that in a school district's code of ethics would be enough for me to go to another school district. Im sure they are protecting themselves legally, but personally, I have never seen anything remotely resembling anything like that in my school districts manuals. Scary, aint it?

Schools are really getting bad. I have thought about putting mine in private school, but were I live there is only about 1o children in the entire school, and it is the only private school near my area. There is a police officer at every school in my city, just in case some thing was to happen. It is like going into a jail when you enter the school. It is sad but things do happen in schools even elementary schools were they have to have a police officer there.

How awful - I just hope that the children don't get to hear of this - it would terrify them and at such a young age too.
Whatever happened to common sense?

That's crazy. What happened to "no pulling hair" and "spitting on each other?" What state are you in?

What freaks me out is that for it to be in there, there had to have been a complaint about it in the past. Wow. Insane.

Good luck to you.
